Unlucky NZ - who apparently had their chances today

Only followed on Cricinfo today but sounds like it was an awesome end to the Test

 No need to get bitchy mate, I was just giving an answer to your question, always willing to help out an obvious novice of the game.

Novice - know there's a word to describe the Bleck Ceps and New Zealund cruckut in general.

Can't believe that super nuffy Kon Williamstown got 4 wickets out here, deadset the bloke makes Nathan Lyon look Muttiah Muralitharan in his prime

Great finish. I heard earlier in the day they dropped a couple of chances on Bell/Prior didn't they? Shame they couldn't get the job done.

Shattered to get so close like that and not win. And to be on top for such a large majority, but that's test cricket I guess. Bell we indeed should have had earlier, Prior had about 5 chances but they weren't really handed to him by us, they were more just plain luck on his part.

Great effort all series by us, to get that close to toppling the number 2 team. I think this team has a future.

incredible... really disappointing we didn't get there... the Brownlie catch, and the Prior b. Wagner were costly, but that's the game I guess... Panesar was not permanent, I was recalling the long partnership between Astle and Morrison that frustrated England, but this time we would have got Monty with another 10 balls at him...

But, incredible to think that we actually (slightly) had the better of England in this test series, in 2/3 tests we put them under pressure and they responded, and in the other they put us under pressure and we responded... not sure anyone predicted that, so I think we should be happy once the disappointment abates

If Australia or NZ were the ones batting in the fourth innings, they would have already been playing golf this afternoon

The Beauty of Cricket

You can smash around an attack 482 runs in a day, but if you dont win, it counts to nought

There are two sides to a story in a game of cricket. England would have looked like flogs in a game of American sport ("Why didna ya go fer da win?"), but fighting to the death to "Not Lose" is something Americans will never understand about the sport or sport in general

In hindsight - NZ had 170 runs in the bank, should have have batted 10 or 20 overs less to bowl at England on that pitch?

Apparently in the history of test cricket, this has been only the second time that a team wasn't able to bowl out the opposition in over 4 sessions in the 4th innings. A combination of good defensive batting, lack of penetrating bowling and a very unresponsive pitch.

This, plus a costly drop off Bell before lunch, and the ball that hit the stumps from Prior...

great effort by the Poms, but I thought our attack did enough, just let down by some sloppy catching, and the wicket offered little

I though Boult was terrific again...

^ What defies logic is there has been low scores (Australia getting 47<- and Pakistan getting 45, NZ getting 40 something in SAf) , and 3 day test matches (Aus V India), BUT surviving 4 sessions has happened twice in the past 12 months, SAf v Aus in Adelaide + Eng v NZ

Great game and great effort to push England that far.
Yes we choked, but that was still a mighty effort over 5 days.

yeah just a shame that couldn't take that last wicket. But the Poms went on the defensive. Mighty effort by the kiwis though to come out with a level series when all and sundry were suggesting they'd get whitewashed 3-0.

That's what makes cricket, cricket

^ That along with laughing at highlight reels of lousy English cricketers from the 80s with bad mullets backpeddling and dropping sitters for catches

gotta say though, huge improvement in Kiwi cricket over the last few years

no one knows just what goes on over the ditch cuz they play a test match about once every 18 months, this will mke a few teams take a bit of notice

be interesting to see how they fare against the Aussies arm, probably a toss of the coin I would think
