Brownlie looked a solid player from what I saw, surely he's worth another go???

Yeah, I feel like I've been banging on about him for a while, but few agree. Played his best (internationally) against you lot in 2011, batting at 6 and was admittedly spotty after that (aside from a second innings ton in the match when we were bowled out for 45 in SA, batting at 4).

He was brought into the ODI side at a point last year to replace Guptill and was ok, without doing enough to really cement his place. Scored a commendable 63 in a win against Australia, but then averaged 19 in 5 matches against SA.

Domestically, he opens for Northern Districts and he seems to have the right kind of approach- particularly for Test match cricket.

Brownlie seems to be off limits. Weird he's been very good domestically

Raval is very good at getting starts but then gets out far too often when he should be kicking on.

Latham is more of a feast or famine. Can have a run of low scores and just when you're about to give up on him he comes up with a great innings.

Latham probably has a longer leash due to being younger and already having proven he can score centuries.

I'm being snide. He has tons against Sri Lanka and Pakistan too. But feast or famine is right.

Talking of Rutherford is making me remember the nightmare of Peter Fulton in 2013/2014

The other factor is that Taylor doesn't have long left either so it's not just the openers we have to consider. I would keep Nicholls at 5 rather than moving him up a spot.

1. Latham
2.
3. Sir Kane of Williamson
4.
5. Nicholls

The next question is Watling. Does NZ have any better keepers on the horizon that would allow Watling to be a pure bat?

And what happened to our army of dibbly dobbler all rounders? Did they all break down? Did we give up on them and finally forced our team to put on big boy pants and rely on specialists?

Our tail is a bit long for my liking though, just don't know what the options are.

Taylor and Waitling are both about the same age. Latham at 4? Doesn't quite have the same strength.

re Waitling- there seem to be quite a few being thrown around. Blundell. Seifert. Phillips. Probably in that order at the moment.

Watling is almost 2 years younger and the way he plays the game (more technique and grit than explosion and hand-eye) probably means he's less susceptible to a sudden drop off. That's why I would bring in another keeper, relieve Watling of that burden and prolong his batting.

I've heard of Blundell and Phillips. Sieffert no clue.

I'm a fan of Waitling, don't get me wrong.

Seifert has played a few T20's, I think. He's keeping for NZ A at the moment, so probably behind Blundell (and Latham) in the scheme of things. Not sure how that translates into different formats though. I think Phillips is in the NZ A scheme as a batsmen, with Siefert taking the gloves ahead of him.
