Well I like the rule.
It is not about the kick, it is about the defence.
Previous to the 40/20 teams could compress up all defenders and smash the runners who were not going not to pass as they in there own half.
With 40/20 wingers have to get back, which gives the team with the pil a chance to spread the pil knowing there is some, if the winger decides to say up a kick can punish them.
So IMO it is an attacking rule as it makes the defence make choices.
Teams these days sometimes run the ball on the 4th in thier own half.
