My point exactly. Norths are no longer a club in the NRL, therefore we cannot count their competitions.

I am confused, will or won't you count them, make your mind up. Now I see how easily the souths club was run into the ground with supporters like you. Steeped in history, shallow in thought.

to me saints will always be st george because thats what i have grown up with, i have no problem with the illawarra name, most people i know from down south are decent people, the only idenity problem saints have is with the media because its there job to sell themselves & there papers, and guys like wiedler are just stirrers,so what ever your team is called support them with all your might.

How the hell could we be going for our 40th win vs Cronulla since 1999?! Why does the NRL recognise our tradition when it suits them?

So taking this article as a guide, our next premiership will be our 16th? Surely! Can someone answer me please?!

NRL Partners V8 for Joint Promotion

Monday, June 4, 2007 - 5:52 PM
V8 Supercars Australia has aligned with the National Rugby League for a unique joint promotion ahead of an historic long weekend of motor sport and rugby league.

The two giants of Australian sport share millions of followers and have teamed up to promote round five of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Eastern Creek and Rugby League’s hugely successful Monday Night Football.

The weekend will kick off with a meet the drivers and players at Oki Jubilee Oval opposite the St George Leagues Club on Friday from 12.30pm.

When: 12.30pm Friday June 8 2007
Where: Oki Jubilee Oval opposite the St George Leagues Club, 124 Princes Highway Kogarah
Who: Current V8 Supercar Champion Rick Kelly, Garth Tander, Mark Skaife, Todd Kelly, Jason Bright, Alan Gurr, Lee Holdsworth and Dean Canto will join NRL stars from the St George Illawarra Dragons

The carnival of the stars will also include the Mondayitis Medics and Triple M street team for a free BBQ and other activities.

For the first time a multi-event ticket will be available for purchase that will include entry to both the V8 Supercars and the Dragons v Sharks game on the Monday of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Not only does the ticket provide incredible savings to all purchasers, they will also go into the draw to win a ‘money can’t buy’ experience – a visit to the pits before the V8 Supercar race, a ride in the Safety Car and access to the Dragons dressing room after the game.

Fans will be able to experience in the one day; V8 Supercars blasting around the Eastern Creek circuit at speeds in excess of 270km/h and then head to Oki Jubilee Stadium in the early evening to watch the St George Illawarra Dragons and the Cronulla Sharks celebrate 40 years of intense local derby battles. How’s this for rivalry!! Wins stand at Dragons 39, Sharks 37; Tries are Dragons 242, Sharks 241 and total points scored are equal at 1,383.

In V8 Supercar terms Mondayitis is unique. Never before has the Series raced on a Monday public holiday. The Eastern Creek circuit holds many great moments in the sport. One of these was when Mark Skaife had his memorable fist-waving incident with arch enemy Russell Ingall. These two combatants will again return to the scene that is part of Australian sport folklore.

The event has added more big screens for spectators, repainted much of the facility and included children’s entertainment areas. They have also implemented a traffic management plan to ease congestion on race days.

With practice on Saturday June 9, qualifying and race one on Sunday, and two 31-lap races on the Monday public holiday, it will be a long weekend of sporting madness for V8 Supercar and NRL fans alike.

Outside of the premier V8 Supercars, Monday action runs from 9am to 5pm. Support categories include V8 Utes, Touring Car Masters, Aussie Race Cars, Australian Performance Cars and Formula Fords.

To purchase your V8 Supercars / NRL ticket package for Monday go to the St George Leagues Club, online at www.dragons.com.au or call 02 4224 8744. Adult tickets are $75 and Concession $50. Each ticket will provide access to the paddock at the V8 Supercars and a great seat at Monday Night Football. A small allocation of tickets will be available at Eastern Creek on the Monday.

For reserved grandstand seating book at Ticketmaster 1300 136 122.

St. George effectively died in 1998.

The NRL should show some balls and make it officially eight years of local derbies.

st george as an entity failed to exist after 1998. the merged club even sell shirts now saying that they were established in 1999!

I note the derbies contradiction in your post.

But apart from that, it was a Saints press release.

At least make an effort to read the thread.

*sigh* The club have never sold any such shirts.

They were sold by a sports store and from what I understand, were mainly sold to opposition supporters looking for something to enrich their lives.

Fear the history of St George if you must. But it comes down to a question of respect for another supporter's view. That is, it doesn't matter which team you support, as long as you support that team.

Btw, I have often referred to the Sydney Bulldogs as Canterbury-Bankstown.
