turning point was session 2 on day 1.

Absolutely carved the Poms up in the first session. Once Bancroft got out, run rate really plateaued for some unknown reason (couldn't even score at 2 an over in session 2) and Australia never recovered from that point onwards.

IN addition, must say this has been another slow, crap abomination of a MCG drop-in pitch that has been dished out by the curator to satisfy CA. Suits the Poms, and well done to them as they've bowled and played better in the conditions.
