My flat mate and I were discussing it earlier - I really don't remember Smiths step being anywhere near as pronounced as it's been all series.

I agree with the above posters, it's almost like he's got something to prove. A bit of arrogance after his last twelve months perhaps?

Must be tough for the aussie commentators to feign interest in a game Australia have thrown away before drinks on the first morning.

You may not love to hear it but nothing screams to me 'number 3'. He is a perfect 4 or 5. Remind me why we moved a bloke averaging close to a 100 this year from his natural position. We went through the same silly decision when we moved Clarke!

It is a very fair point. Here is a video of him scoring a century against South Africa

https://youtu.be/CBhI9njK9zQ

He is batting perfectly normally.

Here is his 160 against India

Again barely moving before the ball is released.

Now here is his 199 against the Windies

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1FX-EFCDtc

Yeah he is moving around but its more like Amla.

I speculate that he thought hmmm if I move outside my off stump I can hit these Indian bowlers wherever I want to because they aren't very good. Which is a fine theory on wickets that don't move. On wickets that do move its quite a bit more risky because it forces him into playing shots he doesn't need to.

Adjust Smithy adjust.

Hughes problem was that people told him to change the technique that served him well. No one has told Smith that, but for whatever reason he has done it anyway.

He is making the technique that served him well more exaggerated. I think his logic is that he wants to take his off stump completely out the game which means "in theory" he can leave literally anything that pitches outside his bat but its not quite working for him at the moment.

He is a pretty bright batsman. I trust he can work it out.

Lol Locky, Starc is definitely up to it. Inconsistent yes, not up to it? No

Walk off Ian.

Come on boys, limit the damage. These Pommy f**kers are fragile if you rattle them!

Exactly. This match isn't as over as it looks. Yeah, we're f**ked. But they have the potential to be just as bad as we were.

This is why the selectors are so keen on Starc. It is frustrating as f**k because he must have a peanut for a brain but boy does he have a lot of upside.
