Ponting looked the best he has all series, I know he made a ton last game but there was some scratchy shots, today he was timing them like the Punter of old.

At 38 he may feel the pinch in the morning but he's an exceptional player.

Dont get me wrong, love to see us get 600

Is it crazy that I still think Punter should retire pretty soon?? Throw Hussey in there as well. I don't think we can take them to the next Ashes series.

We need 600 on this pitch. Bat as long as possible, with out going into tomorrow.

Ideal scenario would be bring up 600 with about 20 overs to go in todays play and then declaring.

Stat

Shaun Marsh's poor series continued with another early dismissal. His aggregate of 17 runs so far is the second-lowest in a Test series (minimum five innings) for a top-order player (1-6). He slots in behind Ken Rutherford, who aggregated only 12 runs in the 1985 series against West Indies.

India will be tougher to bowl out in this match. They will declare before the end of the day guaranteed, maybe before tea if we are scoring freely. We need two cracks with the new ball so likely declaration today. If we declare before tea and have India 3-4 down by the end of the day we will have one foot over the line already.

haha Ken Rutherford. They tried him at 1, 3 and 5 in that series- nothing worked.

Matters would have been even more dire if not for his chanceless 5 (off 33 balls over the course of an hour) in the 2nd innings of the fourth test.

That really is a dire stat. Can you imagine what Marsh would be like facing the Windies circa 85? They'd be coming to blows fighting for the chance to bowl at him.

Would be great to see both of these guys travel along for double centuries. I love watching two wonderful batsmen in wonderful form tracking along to a big score together.

BTW- premature to talk this way at the moment, but if Clarke gets in the vicinity of 400, or any of the other milestones, he bloody better well take them.

I'd love to see a record, but the state of the game doesn't allow it...Unless one of them goes all"Davey Warner"..

We've still got to bowl them out twice on a flat deck..

Adelaide Oval is looking very picturesque this morning. When they first came on, it almost didn't look real
