Bill Lawry should retire ASAP. Well played Handspitter.

Bill Lawry was my favourite commentator when I started following cricket back in the 90s. There was nothing better than him calling the last few overs of a close one-day international, and I love his enthusiasm and passion for cricket. However, at nearly 75, he (like Rabs Warren) is starting to show his age and mixing players up, speaking incoherent rubbish in the box (including making AFL references and wanking on about Melbourne, much like Damien Flemming does),

f**k off with your fumbleball references Lawry you Victorian

100% agreed. I don't want to get too far off topic, as this is a cricket forum. However, I simply cannot understand why all these Victorians feel the need to RAM and SHOVE AFL down our throats all the time. I'm getting bloody sick and tired of hearing them do this. Never have I seen such a sporting organisation that displays such arrogance and very sanctimonious behaviour. I just mentioned that Flemmo is another cricket commentator who does it, Shane Warne did it when he was commentating, Sarah Jones (from Fox Sports) also made heaps of AFL references during the BBL. If AFL really is AS good a game as it's allegedly made out to be, why the constant NEED to talk about it at any opportunity, hijack other sporting broadcasts with their dribble, and as I said, RAM and SHOVE it down ppls throats? "Victorianis" should be the name of a new disease, referring to individuals from Victoria who exhibit this sort of behaviour and cannot see things from an objective viewpoint when ppl disagree with their views on AFL.

Seems no happy medium for our batting.

Taking about 4 or 5 massive batting displays of the summer the rest of the order has crumbled.

Say hypothetically we were to play England tomorrow in the Ashes. We have more than enough depth in the bowling atm. However, the difference between them (#1 in the world) and us is the batting. We are still susceptible to having batting collapses (i.e. if we lose 1 wicket, we will normally lose another 3 or 4 more in quick succession), and they have been happening a lot more frequently over the past couple of years or so. That's the only thing that worries me and hopefully will be rectified over the next 18 months or so before the 2013 Ashes. Although the grass has been looking green during this series, we are still very prone to repeating the mistakes of the past. Remember, it was only just over 2 months ago that we got skittled for 47 in South Africa (with nearly the same batting lineup) when there was no pressure on us, having attained a lead of over 180 after the 1st innings. The Cowan/Warner opening stand at the WACA was the difference between the two sides, as the rest of the batting lineup capitulated once the opening partnership was broken.
