Dead rubber here we come, Clarkes and Rogers last test match.

Who of the others will save their careers with a brilliant innings?

Will we see the return of Sunshine?

Before this test a tour game vs Nottingham Aug 14-16

As much as I hate myself for even suggesting it, you could bank on big levers to get a big nothing score here.

Recall toyman just for the lulz too.

Watson will come back I think. Probably for Darsh.

It's almost worth playing Nev as a batsman and recalling Hadds.

Would be nice to see Rogers and Clarke get a decent score in there last game,Rogers a very gutsy player and Clarke was a very fine batsmen.

This fixture is made for Watto.

Send him in to open and allow him to review at will.

Dead cert to put on a handy 70 or 80.

Poms have moved on to football now anyway

If the wicket is green, it seems another hiding is in order, regardless of who bowls first. Poms could still be hungover of course, imo worst result for Aust would be to win - that will cover up the profound deficiencies seem in the last two test - those performances were as incompetent as any have been in the history of test cricket

Although Clarke has already announced his retirement after the final test and Steve Smith has been anointed as the captain to take over starting from the tour of Bangladesh, I still stand by my original statement in the previous match thread, and that is it will be very interesting to see what happens if, like Matthew Hayden in 2005 and Mike Hussey in 2009, the very small chance that Clarke scores a century at The Oval (especially a big 150+) and whether or not the selectors will then try to talk him out of retirement and get him to play until end of summer (albeit with Smith as captain), or if approached with that situation from the selectors, whether Clarke will backfire and say something along the lines of "stuff you guys! You wanted me out of the side in the first place, and all this rubbish of trying to get me to prove my fitness during the World Cup, you got your wish....and now you want me back?"

With the way Clarkes form has been, id take a big 150+ in this test, hell ill take a good 70. Be a good note for him to retire on. Id say very unlikely he'd change his mind and be available for our summer

On a side note, I think we win the world cup without Clarke anyway, so there is some justification in the rumours around that the selectors wanted to punt him, or were hopefull he wouldn't be fit in time

With his kid due in December I don't think there is much chance he changes his mind.

He'll be in the commentary box for the Gabba test and every test for the next 40 years.

If he joins the Ch9 commentary team, I hope Ch9 don't partner him alongside Shane Warne in commentary stints. Could you imagine how the dialogue would go like?

As long as Punter doesn't end up on Ch9 I'll be happy. I've liked his commentary on Sky Sports this series.

Yeah. Ponting has been a surprise - great player, but not likeable - but like him as a commentator

Channel 9 is just a disaster, and adding Clarke will make it worse - the house that Richie built is a ruin I am afraid

Ponting has been quite enjoyable as a commentator for the past two seasons on Channel 10 during the Big Bash.

These days when I watch the Cricket at home I do it with the TV on mute and have the ABC commentary.

Doesn't Clarke need 222 to get his average back to 50?

Nice to see him do it for Richie. Then take his spot in the beige, the cream, the bone, the off-white...

I remember Ponting's first stint it sounded like he had smoked a big pile of meth. After that he calmed down and became a great commentator.

I don't mind if Clarke joins the commentary as long as he continues to give constructive criticism like he did last year on Watson. If he is going to be a yes man or Warnie's childish goon then I won't listen to him.
