Wouldn't underestimate Scotland.

We'll win, but they could run us close if we don't screw up.
Scotland are going to make waves in this tournament.

NZ won toss and sent the Scots in

Scots 2/11 in the 4th over

Another couple of quick wickets soon and the game could well be shorter than a t20 game

Unchanged lineup, must be settled on Milne who's the only debatable one (given it seems clear they want to ride the Southee/Boult horse) - harsh on McGlenaghan and Mills, but he adds something different. Personally don't get why McGlenaghan gets wickets, but Mills is all class imo

For the first time since the late 80s, there is a ruthless efficiency about us - there's confidence, and a core of world class players (the fact that McCullum, Mills and McGlenaghan aren't in the XI shows that)... not saying we'll win, but anyone that beats us will likely have to play well

NZ won't win this (WC, not this game) picking Milne over McClenaghan. In this Cup taking wickets is the only thing that's going to stop massive scores, and even then we've seen big scores despite wickets falling.

Milne is being picked because he bowls fast and has potential. McClenaghan takes wickets, especially in those later overs.

There was an article a couple of weeks back that said NZ were on average the best performing team with the ball in the last ten overs of ODI games in the past year. McClenaghan taking wickets is a big part of that.

Maybe, who knows - at the end of the day the leadership has done a lot right so their selections will have a rationale - pretty sure McGlenaghan and Mills will make an appearance at some stage - I don't think Milne will play the Aust game at Eden Park, nor should he play at Seddon Park

well then

that said, I am expecting NZ to spank "ordinary" Australia on the 28th

"Ordinary" by recent Australian standards imo... will be interesting, unless something changes I think we're slight favourites in that game... if it was on the West Island you'd be favourites...

At the end of the day, whoever wins the World Cup will have to beat you lot in a knockout game - our worry is if we get to the final I don't think we'll have played in Australian conditions...

I don't know about that, a huge amount of McClenaghan's wickets were pretty soft.
Top edges going nowhere, slogs missed completely.
Rarely does he actually dismiss a batsman with a very good ball.

Milne is a bit of a spray gun but he brings that extra yard of pace.
He's just a bit of fine tuning away from really ripping into teams imo.

Agree on Milne, but he's not going to get fine tuned in the space of a month.

Soft wickets are better than no wickets, he gets them, and that directly effects the amount of runs the opposition get.

Milne will become a very good bowler, but a guy averaging 40 will not do anything against the bigger nations on batter friendly pitches even if he does have an extra yard of pace.

I hope Milne comes good in this WC, I'm just struggling to see it.

I suppose the other thing that hasn't been mentioned is Boult, who up until this year played very very little ODI games.

I can understand not wanting to go with two left armers for extra diversity (Southee steady swing right hand, Boult left arm, Milne express right hand). However, one guy averages 40 the other 25. I know who I'd pick.
