Well that was certainly embarrassing. The batting display today was one of if they had half a brain it'd be lonely. Deplorable. The World Cup isn't won on NRR. Its won on skill, discipline and attitude. None of which they displayed. Shameful.

My thoughts exactly, got into a couple of funny debates on Facebook where some claimed I was taking the gloss of a comprehensive kiwi win. We played like garbage.

Batted like garbage - disrespectful, no attending to the basics...

Anyway, I am sure they will debrief - I suspect they were keen on making a statement, but it backfired big time

This game was probably a good thing for your boys, played crap and still won while giving them rhe reality check they need. It's still a 3 horse race as far as I'm concerned.

Backfired in the sense 7 wickets fell, but they probably got a bit out of it. Doubt it was to make a statement

It was most likely to take the opportunity to go the tonk, as there will be times in the tournament where they wont have the luxury of having "plenty of overs left". So why not get some practice in, knowing full well you are always in control of the win

Losing only 2-3 wickets and plodding along to win would have been useless to them.

In the end getting the job done quickly even at the expense of wickets was the right move in terms of overall tournament strategy because of the net run rate factor- but they executed it poorly, a bit more circumspection would've probably resulted in 4-5 wickets and the target being reached even faster. But as said the result was never really in doubt- our tail is long enough that they could've slammed on the brakes and ground out the remaining runs had they needed to.
