For the most part this behavior is usually only found in the hunting dog breeds (Labradors, German Shepards, Ridgebacks, etc ). I have owned Staffys and Staffy Xs all my life and not one of them has ever chowed down on their own gut nuggets.

My ex Missus used to have a Maltese that did it quite regularly. Then her cousins would come over and play with the dog and let it lick their faces. I didn't particularly like her cousins so I never used to say anything.

Needless to say, I always shook their hand in greeting rather than giving them a kiss on the cheek.

Dogs and cats are easy...Fish are awesome...

I've got a 6 x 3 foot tank that's been running for about 3 years. There's about 20 fish in there, my favourite being the salmontail catfish which is about 8 inches and swims in a wavy motion like a shark. Neglected it for about 7 months...don't feed the fish, clean the tank, ect...The tank is about 1/3 full and the water is brown/green, mold is forming all over the place. Basically, if you took a sniff/sip of this water, you'd have aids within seconds...

I would have thought all the fish would die off with me not feeding them or cleaning the tank...turns out they have formed their own fish city and have a booming economy...I think there's more fish in there now than when i started the thing...

I like cats, mostly because they don't require as much care and attention as dogs, they tend to do their own thing whereas any decent breed of dog will need a lot of walking, attention etc. Great if you love dogs, but when you have no time to do any of that it's just not fair on the dog. Plus cats are hilarious, they take themselves so seriously yet do some incredibly stupid things, just moved back in with my parents and the one thing I like most about is that I've finally got a cat again

I like both but prefer dogs. Really only because I hate when cats climb on my groin.

Anyway while we're on pets..

Have had ours since she was a pup, Kelpie-cross:

I love how they can find the most innocuous or mundane thing and turn it into the greatest toy in the world. Occasionally I will toss them a lid off a bottle of water, or hide a Pen under the rug in the loungeroom, or even screw a bit of aluminium foil up into a ball and toss it to them and they will play with it for days. You never have to worry about keeping cats occupied, the smallest thing amazes them.

The only thing that keeps my dog active are the birds. She'll just sit there in the bushes waiting for one to hit the ground and then hit the bolt straight for it... They tease her on the clothes line evertime she's outside. She tasted victory once...
