A couple of questions about the NRL?

Not sure what the heck you're trying to say but watch as many games as you can for the 2015 season and tell me you don't notice a distinct rise in the number of handling errors every time it's raining or the pitch is greasy.

It would, but it's a tranditional aspect. Catch a ball with gloves is seen as less hard i guess, there's more skill in playing without. Or at least thats what people think

I'm old school and to me, our game is a winter sport and is to be played in whatever the conditions are on the day. No gloves.

Same reason I'm opposed to roofed stadiums.

I appreciate the response. I understand the thinking for the numbering on the jumpers, it just seems from a marketing/revenue stand point that you would increase sales if you had the name and number on the jersey like with Origin jerseys. I don't know the Australian market though so maybe that's not something people want.

Also the gloves don't offer really any protection hust thought they might cut down on the handling errors.

The numbers are traditional and tell you the players position, even more important these days with so many similar body types, can you imagine a QB wearing 99?

Gloves were a thing in the 90's (mainly wingers), they didn't really help and made you look stupid, the ball sticking to the hand is not entirely desirable. Think again, how many QB's wear gloves?

Only myself and a few others give a crap about Rugby League in Adelaide, it is dominated by another sport. Think Mexico and soccer.

I realised today Peyton Manning wears a glove on his throwing hand and he holds the record for touchdown passes now.

People are making out that guys were wearing gloves left right in centre in Rugby League in the 90's.

They are either too young to remember or drug addled.

Agree. I can remember one or two seasons when a very few players wore gloves.

I actually feel that the wearing of gloves would make passing the ball more difficult in the game of Rugby League. As this is an important skill for all players on the team I think this is the reason why we don't see them.

I agree completely with the notion that the logo on the front is more important than the name on the back. But with how valuable merchandise sales is to professional sports as a means of revenue the NRL in poker terms is "leaving money on the table""

The personalised numbers argument due to marketing oppotunities doesn't really hold against the tradition we have in our game for positional numbering. I know as a junior playing rugby league, the only number I wanted to wear was #7. If you are the first string half at your club you have earned the right to wear that jumper.

I think you will find the numbers changing only for the marginal player, (the exception being positional reshuffle due to injuries). These players do not generally influence merchandise sales.

We already suffer from enough Americanisation of our culture, language, spelling amongst other things. Even our spell check on here keeps trying to substitute 'zees' for esses.
Let's keep our numbering system. It's a tradition.

i would rather any ground in the comp over ANZ. Allianz is pretty good if it's a 20k crowd or so apart from that smaller grounds a better for atmosphere, View etc.
From watching the games I actually like a lot of the smaller grounds with the exception of maybe cambelltown(?), the really small place where the tigers play a couple of games a year. When I was in high school our last game every year was at the local college which is similiar to Brookvale or 1300 smiles. 10-15k well hydrated individuals:D

Campbelltown is good when it has a decent crowd (i.e against the Broncos last year).

Unfortunately most of the games we get there are against out of town teams, which worked well for me this year because Melbourne played there.

Majority of junior leagues have grand finals at the local stadium aswell. Played many games at Campbeltown Stadium.

I understand the tradition thing, I just looked at it from the aspect that IMO what sets League apart from Union in the pace/speed of play and it would improve upon that.

I personally don't understand how people watch Union. There was a Six Nations match a few years ago that had like 21 minutes of scrums which is insanity. How do you watch guys pack a scrum over and over and over again.

I'm cool with that but why use the spray? Does the same thing as gloves and every year you'll see a handfull of guys that knockon in the play of the ball cause they have so spray tack on their hands

Don't forget RL players all must tackle for the whole match

Do NFL defenders wear gloves?
