THE Melbourne Rebels put Brisbane Broncos back Denan Kemp through a secret medical assessment yesterday and the club is likely to announce his signing within the next 24 hours.

He would become the fourth NRL player to join the new Super Rugby franchise along with Jarrod Saffy, Cooper Vuna and Luke Rooney.

And once the deal is finalised he will also play for the battling Parramatta Two Blues in a very positive step for the Sydney premiership.

It is anticipated Kemp will make his rugby debut on the wing in the Shute Shield game against Randwick at Granville Park on Saturday.

The 23-year-old punctured his lung scoring a match-winning try in the first NRL round of 2010 against Newcastle and missed the rest of the season.

He was also injured during this year's pre-season competition and then found himself playing with the Wynnum-Manly feeder club.

The Broncos gave Kemp permission to negotiate with the Rebels because of the high regard in which he is held at the club.

And securing Kemp would be a major coup for Parramatta, who did not win a game last year.

"All going well he will be training with the Rebels from tomorrow and will be up here on Thursday to train with us and turn out on Saturday," said Parramatta coach Glen Christini.

"It's a fairly significant signing and outcome if it all comes together."

Besides having a good turn of speed Kemp is an accomplished kicker.s in general play.

Meanwhile Pat McCutcheon ran at No.7 at Waratahs training yesterday and will replace injured skipper Phil Waugh on the side of the scrum for Saturday's game against the Force in Perth.

It is also likely that lock Kane Douglas will return to the starting side after being rested from last Friday's win over the Chiefs.

I remember watching him playing for the Vulcans and thinking I had never seen anybody on a sports field look so pissed off, unhappy and obviously not wanting to be there.

Anyway. Good luck to him

If he had come to a club that had a decent 6/7 pairing he would have gone real well. You don't go from being top try scorer one year to bugger all the next for no reason.

I think he has been very badly maligned.

I think there's definitely an element of that to it. Personally, I think he made a huge mistake coming to us and we never really got to see what he was capable of.

Personally I think man-bags were so '80s.
Outside a good 3, 4, 6 & 7 he could have been good.
Be interested to see how long this gig lasts.

The Auckland Social scene still hasn't recovered from his loss. This is terrible news for Brisbane and rugby league in general. I hope Melbourne is ready, imagine how epic Melbourne cup day will be with this superstar in attendance.

Melbourne Rebels contract offer is withdrawn.

Shattered Kemp not a Bronco Rebel

Brisbane winger Denan Kemp says he is devastated after Australian Super Rugby club Melbourne Rebels pulled a contract offer 24 hours after a glowing assessment of his potential.

The Broncos had the release papers ready for Kemp to sign on Wednesday.

He had flown to Melbourne on Tuesday for a series of secret medical tests at the Rebels' request.

After the feedback he received he expected to be playing his first game of rugby union for Parramatta Two Blues against Randwick at Granville Park on the weekend.

A shattered Kemp said the Rebels indicated to him after testing that he could even be the fastest player in the Super 15 competition.

The former junior soccer star was also complimented on his kicking skills.

"They all said the speed test and the kicking I did went really well, I thought it was a done deal," an almost inconsolable Kemp told AAP.

The 23-year-old Broncos winger was worried about being painted in a poor light after the Rebels rejected him.

"Everyone knows how much I love the club and that I wouldn't have done this had it not been a really good opportunity for me," he said.

"I'm in a really bad situation right now. I don't like looking like the guy whining and pointing fingers.

"But I'm pretty devastated to be honest because it's left me in a really poor place.

"At the end of the day it can look bad for the Rebels but I'm the player, it's my career, my life that's been tossed about."

Kemp had his house cleaned to rent, had packed his bags and had taken his pet dogs to his partner's house.

"It was basically like packing my whole life up," he said.

"I'll just have to pick myself up again.

"I've been pretty unlucky over the last year or two with injuries and stuff like this."

The Rebels recruited three rugby league players for their Super 15 debut season, including former Newcastle Knights winger Cooper Vuna who is out injured.

With their wing stocks thin and Vuna on thesidelines, they were forced to play halfback Richard Kingi on the flank in their last game which made Kemp's signing seem even more appealing.

Brisbane football operations manager Andrew Gee, who said the club wanted to do the right thing by Kemp and release him, described the Rebels' negotiations as "amateurish.

The Rebels were unable to offer a comment when contacted on Wednesday.

Kemp, who has played 32 games for the Broncos, but none this year, will return to play in the Queensland Cup as he bids to break back into Brisbane's top side.

He remains contracted to the Broncos through to the end of the year.
