A player you thought was a diamond but ended up a rock

 Fair.
Seriously though, in 10 years time you could have all 3 f**king Mata'utia brothers in this side. Sione has fallen off a f**king cliff! He was absolutely disgusting last year. Havent seen a great deal of him this year, is... is he still shit?

I lost a a fair bit of hope in him last year but the little he has been on the park this year has me thinking he will be a good first-grader.

Last year he was weak and played like a teenager.

This year he looks like he spent the off-season in the gym watching Steve Matai highlights. I think he has the skill to make it as long as his physicality is there.

Don't think he will be the same style of player as he looked like when he first hit the scene but we will see how this year goes.

In his defence it's an achievement coming back from one ACL, let alone three.

Pee Wee Moke is another.

Great name though.

Haha yeah that Jersey Flegg grand final he just tore up on TV about 10 years ago.

Did he ever play a first-grade game?

Hard to believe he didn't.

9 pages in and no mention of Cory Paterson? He was lethal with the ball in hand during his first season, smashed guys in attack in his second, but was never able to put the two aspects of his game together. Joined team Mundine and had no chance of ever recovering.

Yeah but he was way better than Joe Picker

Joe picker looked a million dollars next to Campo in one of his purple patches. Just goes to show how good a backrower can look next to a really inform half.

Papalii has done most of his work next to mccrone lol

Can anybody compete with Dave Taylor?

Should have been the forward of his generation, ended up being a punch-line.

Here's a few others that failed to live up to the hype
Gerard Beale
Greg Eastwood
Ash Harrison

All had "solid" careers but if you listened to the early wraps you'd think they'd be stars of the game.

Looking at other clubs...

Jarrod Mullen
Terry Campese
Joel Monaghan
Roy Asotasi
Chris Houston
Travis Burns
Justin Poore
John Morris
Matt Utai
Ty Williams
John Williams
Tariq Sims
Shannon Walker
Chris Sandow
Shaun Fensom
Aiden Tolman
Feleti Mateo
John Sutton
Adam Dykes
Josh Hannay
Tyrone Roberts
Luke MacDougall
Matt Duffie
Kalifa Fai Fai Loa
Rhys Wesser
Luke Rooney
Trent Waterhouse
Joel Clinton
Mark McLinden

Not necessarily bad players, in fact some had awesome spurts in form. But they lost their way and didn't have the careers expected of them.

Campo is a weird one. He was always seen as potentially a solid first grader but after Carney got fired he had a great run of form. Way better than anyone ever really expected of him. He then had a great backhalf to 2010.

Injuries were cruel to him too but it was a weird career.

Tariq and Korbin Sims are both headed down the rock path.

I actually like Tyrone Roberts. Would prefer him to Hodkinson just quietly.

What is wrong with Aiden Tolman? Very underrated and would start for any team in the NRL maybe except the Cowboys.

I wouldn't call him a rock unless you mean in the positive context because he is a rock for the Dogs.

Plus his career hasn't finished.

Willie Tonga was unreal in 04 but was pretty meh after that. Of course injuries were the cause of that and he had a decent career still.

I actually like Tyrone Roberts.

I was fan of his in 2013, until it all went south for him.

I genuinely hope he finds his feet at the Gold Coast but with Elgey/Taylor and plenty of cap room I'm worried about his prospects.

What is wrong with Aiden Tolman?

Doesn't have the extra gear in him that I expected to see when he started making waves for Melbourne in 2010.

Could live with it, if he didn't have the tendency to get physically dominated from time to time.

Essentially, I saw him as a Top 10 forward when really he's maybe just in the Top 20.

I fear Trbojevic may end up the same way. Hopefully he continues to develop his tackle technique as it could be his bread and butter moving forward.

Don't know if Tasesa Lavea has been mentioned yet? Was a superstar down at the Storm for a season then just disappeared.

Junior Moors, Masada Iosefa, Tim Grant, Sam Mckendry, Harry Seijka, Joseph Paulo...Penrith had a lot of these types.

Throw Nathan Gardner in. After that try against the Roosters you'd think he was building to a good career at the Sharks.
