JUNIOR SAU SIGNS WITH KNIGHTS

Just 12 months ago Junior Sau was without a club and just looking for an opportunity.
Picked up by the Knights, he finished the season as a man in demand and today he repaid the faith by agreeing to remain with Newcastle on a two year extension.

KNIGHTS’ HALFBACK BATTLE HEATS UP

The Knights’ pre-season trial match against Melbourne is looming as a battle of the halfbacks.
But it’s not a case of opposing number sevens - these ones are on the same team, with Newcastle’s Luke Walsh and Scott Dureau, both trying to get their hands on the same jersey.

Interesting that Peter Mata'utai is humble enough to say his youngest (at the Knights) brother Pat is the best.
Pat scored two tries in his last trial game and three in the first Mathews game of the season, so he is on fire.

KNIGHTS TRIAL INJURY WOES

Although the Newcastle Knights had better news on injured hooker Isacc De Gois today, most concern remains on fellow recruit Ben Rogers who could face a stint on the sidelines.
He and fellow half Scott Dureau both have ankle problems with Rogers to have scans when he arrives back in Newcastle.

Great news for the Newcastle Knights today with key recruits Isaac De Gois and Ben Rogers both cleared of serious injury after the weekend trial match and both could yet play this weekend.

Rugby league history has been made in the Hunter at the inaugural Knights player draft.
Fringe first grade and top junior Knights will play with local clubs throughout the season.
Top players will act as ambassadors to help raise the competition’s profile.

NRL: KNIGHTS BACK SMITH WITH NEW DEAL

Brian Smith has spoken publicly for the first time about his new deal, to remain Knights’ coach until at least the end of the 2010 NRL season.
There are clauses in the contract which could see it extended, depending on the team’s performance.

ROGERS ROCKS IN FOR KNIGHTS

The battle of the halves took an interesting turn last night at Cessnock for the Knights with Ben Rogers playing himself into contention for the season opening game in two weeks.
With Jarrod Mullen playing well at half-back, Rogers was solid in the number six.

Although they’ll soon announce an operating loss for last year, it won’t be as bad as first thought - but the club admits there’s new hurdles to clear this season.

He’s been the talk of Newcastle league circles for some years but Knights flyer Akuila Uate appears set to live up to the hype this season.
His coach certainly thinks the Fijian international is destined for big things while confirming his team for the opening round this Sunday on the Gold Coast.
As expected five-eighth Ben Rogers joins Jarrod Mullen in the halves.
