Current salary cap was set in 99. Maybe even 98.
But it has not increased with cpi for say, 5 years X roughly 2%
It will increase next year, for 2005 & on. Guaranteed.
If each clubs gets that increase it equates to fairly much, an international players salary. yes...no?
Besides that, the Queens are under for 2005 anyway. & they have the cash, no doubt.

Bailey will be at the Sharks next year. But not the following, unless one of the three things I mention happen.

Two years ago, one of the reasons for getting Opes in was that he would attract players to the club. Now we're surprised that dumping him might have the reverse effect.

Isn't it ironic that now John Lang is at Penrith, he is attracting players to the Panthers? Quite funny really.

To tell you the truth, if I was an NRL player looking to go elsewhere, Cronulla would probably be lower down on my list due to Anderson. I think after everything he is done this year, nobody will want to have anything to do with him...with exception to Kimmorley and Bailey

Guys, the Dragons may have space under the salary cap, but I doubt they actually have the dollars to pay these blokes with.

For those that don't know, they no longer have a major sponsor. Integral Energy pulled out, and they are yet to find a new one. From what I hear, they aren't close to signing one either.

If BTR is right and the cap goes up how can the clubs on one hand complain that the pokie tax is going to kill them then on the other say they want a raise in the cap?

They haven't found one at the price they are asking.
As a club with a truely national supporter base, excellent TV numbers, they can demand alot from a major sponsor.
I also did not realise that they got rid of a major sponsor liability in the form of Saleh.

If John Lang had been allowed to buy a few players that he wanted he would have won the premiership for the sharks. Instead the board insisted that he keep the existing loyal players (eg Barry Pierces own son) that really could have been having a run in reserves. Langy being the nice bloke he is didn't go to war with the board - he got on with a job which he couldn't complete under the constrictions of the board.
Anderson knew of this culture as he called it and tried to change things. Being a very different personality to Lang he has taken the board head on. A lot of the dispute has been manouvred by the board.

I know how contracts work over the years Frenzy but I doubt that Bailey would get 100 grand for next year. If there was 100 grand left over it would have gone on blacklocks, timmins, gasiners and co. And even if they did Bailey the boof head would want more than 100 grand. He made two rep teams this year and after years of being just another player I'm sure he is dying to get his hands on some bling bling.

Also they have signed way more than they have brought in and that Withers bloke would have set them back a weeee little bit more than people think. If the "Cashed up" Tigers couldn't keep him Withers then the drags must have put in a decent offer.

And if he Bails wants to play under a good coach wouldn't he be better playing for a little less than the drags offer and going to the roosters  . I'm sure they could fit him in.

But Hulk I didn't say anything about him being there in 2004. I quote myself here.

When they offload more for 2005, like Barrett, they'll be flush with cash.

I was saying that Saints are in a much better financial position than most people think.

I firmly believe he will be Sharkski 2004 and goneski 2005 actually.

Ahhh ok I get ya.

But why would he resign for just 2004? I doubt the club would go for that.

He's already signed for 2004 - it's the last year of his existing contract. All he is doing is trying to get the current one upgraded for 2004 - i.e. a pay rise :)

but wouldn't the club only give him a pay rise if he took the clause out and then chucked a few more years on it :D

God I wish this would all hurry up and end...

Baily as he is now an international player (that doesnt role off the tounge well) is entitled to upgrades in his contract, but if he walks out on the Sharks now, what club is going to be able to afford, or have the room under the cap at this time of the year, to sign an international player?! No one!

And then, from what i understand, if you asked the players at different clubs what they thought of him joining their club, a secret ballad would have the players saying, we don't want him thanks.

After having read the above:

The idea of PHIL BAILEY being a Kangaroo is a poor joke. Amongst my mates we have a phrase for chicks we dont rate and it translates well to footy players: "AVERAGE AT BEST"

f**k OFF PHILLIP BAILEY WE DONT WANT OR NEED YOU ANY MORE.

at it again pogo?

the context was specific and it is 6 months old

i hope no one investigates your old posts

they may find a prediction about a player that didnt come true and conclude you are a pumped up trouble maker that stumbled accross something that was common knowledge that you blew out of all proportion in an effort to masterbate your ego
