This band is now almost 30 years old. 26 to be exact. And i bet none of you know the real true pioneers of metal. Ministry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministry_(band)

They used every form of music to get their message across, and its sad noone knows anything about them. At least Australia recognises them ... they were the headline act at the big day out in 96, and to this day most people who saw them say they were BY FAR the scariest act theyve EVER seen. Anyone who thinks Whitesnake are metal, are in for a big shock. These guys were playing it when the world was listening to Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners or Shiny Shiny by Hayzee Fantayzee.

Here are some clips of their most recent stuff (The last 10 years). If you are a true metalhead you'd love it. Especially how they use current events and in particular the Bush's

This is Metal ...

Ministry - New World Order (Psalm 69) - Featuring Samples from George Bush Senior.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXxd207ANlc

This song is VERY APT today. Like Father, Like Son.

Ministry - Hero (Psalm 69) - THIS IS A MUST WATCH !!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TlcQZCk5YI

Ministry - Just One Fix (Psalm 69) - Probably their most kick arse song of all
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2UA-7Q3ncU

Ministry - Psalm 69 (LIVE) (Psam 69)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRNrFCXHD0k

Ministry - Burning Inside (The Mind is a Terrible Thing To Taste)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnhyHek88Ao

Ministry - Stigmata (The Land of Rape and Honey)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thm29bz3XKc

Ministry - Bad Blood (The Crow movie soundtrack)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSExbsC6ASo

Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod (psalm 69)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWAogbpQfDk&NR

These are just some teasers ... but ffs, get educated will you ... these guys are the TRUE pioneers of Metal. They are still alive today, and going strong.

p.p.s CRANK IT UP, REAL LOUD !!

p.p.p.s Give it away Rob Zombie ... you'll NEVER be better than Alien Jourgenson.

Jourgensen is a true weirdo!
I've got the filthpig album, and it's pretty good, but I don't have any of their other stuff. All the singles that I've heard have impressed me.

Their cover of Dylan's 'Lay, Lady, Lay' is great, the guitar in it is awesome!
'New world order' is a kickarse song too, with a great video clip.

Ministry really knew how to create that 'wall of sound' thing!

Yep ... they perfected it to a tee. I still cant believe noone who loves metal has reallly heard of them, or rates them. Oh well, thats their problem :)

Btw if you want KICKARSE ... nothing kicks like just one fix.

Guess you have never heard of Black Sabbath OVP?

LMAO

I'd love to know who all these "metalheads" are that dont know Ministry, hell they charted here so there must be a few people who have heard their stuff. I wouldn't label myself that but I do listen to plenty of metal & was getting wasted to the sounds of these guys 10-15 years ago. Jesus Built My Hotrod still randomly starts in my head & then lingers for days now!

I know who ministry are dipsh*t but when someone claims they are the pioneers of metal, then questions have to be asked.

This is the most riediculous thread I have ever seen.

There is not one metalhead on the planet that hasn't listened to Ministry ... but Sydraider is right. Sabbath preceeded them by years.

What do they sound like? Like 80's metal?

If so...Pass. I hate that whiny guitar sound. Gimme a HEAVY guitar riff that gives you a headache and makes your ears bleed any day. Well, maybe not that bad...

I have the Psalm 69 album from my mid teens when I was into metal music. I particularly like the song with the same name that says "Drinking the blood of Jesus, drinking it right from his veins..."

Hardkore.

I like Ministry also, one has to question the validity of OVP's claims of them being the pioneers of metal when Al himself comes out with a quote like this..

"Black Sabbath, more addictive than heroin or pussy"- Al jurgenson.

80s metal is a very broad term there Eelementary, given that even back then there were at least 20 distinguishable metal sub-genres.

But no, there is nothing whiny about Ministry.

MC5 , Steppenwolf and Iron Butterfly were around in the mid 60's .

The term "heavy Metal" is said to be taken from "born to be wild".

Led Zep could almost be called early heavy metal.

Almost ... but not quite.

Obviously every band has influences that can be traced back for the past 2000 years but Sabbath are generally considered the godfathers of metal. They are the band that took their influences to the next level and produced a style of music that can be associated with what we now call metal.
