I wish everyone would get off the we hate Joey bandwagon. It really is getting boring. Half the time the supporters that whinge about Johns being a "cry baby" have their own cry babies in their teams BUT they fail to see that. What is it about Joey that everyone hates so much. I'll tell you what it is. It is the fact that he is one of the best players in the world. Yes, he does have a tendency to let his emotions get the better of him, but then again how many NRL players haven't let the "heat of the battle" or their emotions get the better of them. I'll tell you - Not many. For god's sake would everyone just get over it. I just hope for the sake of ALL rugby league fans that it doesn't end up with Joey going to play in England, just because the NRL want to make a scapegoat of someone, to take all the pressure away from their poor refereeing standards.

wank wank wank. Johns is a whinger, make peace with it and get on with your life. Some teams have "cry babies" some don't. If you labelled Kimmorley as one of the biggest whingers in the game I doubt many Shark fans would disagree, and if he called a Touchie a F***** C*** then I would happily support him being suspended as well. Its got nothing to do with emotion, why is he any more emotional or passionate than the other 33 players out there working their asses off. It has been said many times, no player is bigger than the game, and if Johns wants to take his ball and head of to Warrington then sayanora mate thanks for the good times.

Poor referring is another issue, but if Johns had held his tongue that would be the major issue right now. Blame Johns for that as well.

Whilst I don't believe for a second that he'll go to Warrington, it's a pretty smart ploy to get the NRL to reduce his sentance. Lets see if the NRL will let their drawcard leave the competition - nice bluff Joey :)

Suck sh*t Johns, next time don't go around and abuse the officials.

As for the farkwits that actually believe Johns has been hard done by, have a good look at your f**king selfs, to think calling people farkin merkins is acceptable just shows what wankers roam this board.

Next they'll say that it's alright to hit a ref because he made a bad decison, mistakes happen in everday life all the time, that doesn't justify calling people names, if i was at school and called a teacher that beacause they made an error in an assignment would i expect to be suspended...f**king oath!

If Johns is going to take his ball and run off to the UK over this, then all I can say is don't let the door hit your arse on the way out Joey!

Deadset, what a drama queening little whinging b*tch! You did the crime, now do the time and just shut the hell up and get on with it. It's no big deal! FFS!

BTW I am just hanging to hear what his defence is going to be! That oughta be a real laugh!......"Well actually I had gracefully accepted the decision, and was just telling Bedsy in our special play code that next playwhen we got the ball back I was going to put up a 'Sucking Punt' - just as the touchie ran in front of me - All just a terrible misunderstanding here sir! I wouldn't do that - Some of my best friends are touch judges, honest!"

Joey set to dump Australia
By Dean Ritchie
August 16, 2006 ANDREW Johns, the world's best league player, is contemplating quitting the NRL and moving to England if handed a season-ending four-match ban at tonight's judiciary hearing.

In the biggest judiciary case in the NRL's history, Johns' season could be over if he fails to have a dissent charge downgraded and misses the finals.

The charge arises from a 79th minute incident in the match against Manly last Friday night when Johns called touch judge Matt Cecchin a "f...ing c...".

The Newcastle captain faces either a two-match or four-match ban. His manager John Fordham said Johns could walk away from the NRL if banished for the season.

Fordham stressed Johns had not stated he would quit, but was tiring of the intense scrutiny of his high profile in the NRL.

"The immediate playing future of Andrew Johns, one of rugby league's greatest players, ambassadors and characters, will hinge on the result," Fordham said in an exclusive column for The Daily Telegraph.

"If the NRL judiciary votes in favour of a four-match ban and the Knights subsequently either fail to make the final eight or survive the first semi-final without their chief playmaker, would you blame him if he suddenly decided he's had enough?

"Will he have had enough of the pressure-cooker environment, the scrutiny and the witch-hunts that are part of being the game's highest profile and best player?

"The NRL can ill afford to drive its No.1 drawcard away from playing the game in this country.

"What nobody appears to be disputing is the penalty far exceeds the severity of the offence."

Fordham said Johns lived under intense scrutiny in Newcastle.

"Joey has often complained about the constant off-field pressure, focus and scrutiny that come with the lofty status he's achieved on the football field," Fordham said.

"In Newcastle, a city he loves dearly, he lives in a fishbowl. Whenever he can escape to enjoy the simple things in life - surfing, a concert and, yes, even visiting an art gallery, he is at his happiest.

"Over the years, he's had to put up with people encroaching on his property, causing a racket as they drive past his house or even ringing his doorbell to say hello.

"This intrusion has driven him to the edge on many occasions."

Newcastle's defence team this evening will be Allan Sullivan QC and barrister James McLeod.

"We in no way condone swearing at match officials, however, we believe the severity of the charge is out of proportion," Knights chief executive Ken Conway said.

Former Australia captain Brad Fittler last night backed Johns.

"I think the penalty is a bit harsh. It sounds heavy.

i think its just a ploy to put pressure on the judiaciary to let him off easy

You wouldn't be suspended for 4 weeks you dribbler. You'd be given at worst a 3 dayer, depending on how smart you were (obviously not too smart), you'd probably get off with a pissweak inter-school.

I thought the reports of him f**king off to Britain were courtesy of his manager Mr Fordham... it would be a loss if he went, but at the same time some of the attitude and behaviour he's displayed this year has been totally sh*thouse.

Love how so many people here attacking Johns' swearing are using more expletives themselves.

Personally, I think Johns' threat is a stupid strategy. Although I think some suspension is warranted, two weeks is probably more appropriate, so he had a good chance of a downgrading. Now with this stunt, his upped the stakes and if the joodishary downgrades there going to look like they kowtowed to him. They may just think stuff him, he can have the 4 weeks.

It would have been two weeks if he had pleaded guilty and had not struck Josh Lewis a couple of weeks ago. You can't blame the match review committee for Joey's past indiscretions.

i'm a knights fan and i think NRL should find him guilty and ban him for 4 weeks.

i'm tired of all the club being solely around johns.

If johns does go does that mean that the knights don't have to pay out his contract for next year?

I was indifferent about if he got off or not but now I hope they call his bluff.

The human headline wasn't shy of the media when he wanted the NRL to kick the tin for a few bucks so he wouldn't go to Union.

Now a few things don't go his way and he threatens to take his bat and ball and tell mommy.

Yes he is the best player in the NRL and Yes it would be a shame to see him go but you should never bite the hand that feeds you Joey.

Good luck in the ESL

Are you people geniused?

He has not said he'd go. Other people are implying his thoughts. Stop making out that Joey has said he would go to England.

Simple fact! He didn't!

Are you geniused? His manager has come out and implied that he would leave, and that's good enough for most people. If he doesn't like wat his manager is saying on his behalf then he should sack him.

... Take your ball and f**k off then. If he leaves he'll be remembered not as one of the best league players of all time but rather the biggest dummy spitter in our games history.

I liked Joey but the way he has handled this is disgusting.

Oh I'm sorry. So John Fordham is Andrew Johns now? If your boss speculated on something using his own initiative, then you should be held responsible for his words? Fordham was on John Laws this morning and in the interview it was was pretty clear that, once again, the media had taken the comments made completely out of context and made them out to be truth.

Who'da thunk it? The media getting something wrong and blowing it out of proportion! Well f**k me! That can't be true can it?
