Adam Blair

When Blair first came onto the scene he seemed to me to be a lot bigger making him more effective, now he looks leaner, probably fitter but is less effective in A & D.

When he left the Storm in 2011 he was 114 kg, round 1 2012 he was 104 kg. Too lean for the impact he needs to create.

Exactly my thoughts ,the beefier Blair was a way better player

This is probably how his conversation with Sheens went:

T: Adam, your a fantastic second rower but we want you to be more versatile and a lot quicker. You will need to drop about 10 kg.
A: You know I also play Prop? I think I'm good with my weight atm.
T: Don't talk back to me you prick. Drop the weight, I want you playing 5/8 next to Benji.
A: Are you serious? Benji is 5/8...I've never played in halves WTF are you talking about.
T: I'm going to move Benji to Halfback. You will be 5/8.
A: Why are you moving Benji to halfback? I was told the Tigers were going to use me for my Forward talent. I don't want to play 5/8.
T: You will play what I tell you to play. Benji is too quick and agile to be playing 5/8. I want him at Halfback so he can eventually move to Hooker once Farah moves to Fullback.
A: WTF? Shouldn't we just stick to what we are good at?
T: No. Unlearn all that shit you were taught at Melbourne. We do things differently here. You will play Second Row this year but play it like a Winger/Prop so you can play 5/8 next year.
A: Is this a joke?
T: Don't talk back to me
A: Can I please just play the way I usually do
T: Ask Humphreys he calls the shots
A: But your the head coach?
T: Yes but he pays our salary. Just make sure you lube up your bumhole before you go in.
A:............
T:............
A:..............
T: 10kg gone by start of season or Humphrey's will be paying you a visit to "discuss your salary".

Hugh McGahan: Weapons there for Aussie win

Adam Blair's weight loss has changed his game.

The selection of the Kiwi team has, in general, drawn little criticism and, for me, it's a sign there is confidence these players will more than trouble the Australians.
The debate has been about who was left out and even I was surprised by a couple of omissions.

Adam Blair has just been brought into the side for Jeremy Smith, who is now out for a shoulder operation, and Blair can count himself lucky. I don't think he has had a very good season and at no stage did he play to his potential.

After leaving the Storm, he reduced his weight, under instruction from the Tigers, and was ineffective in his role. The weight loss reduced the impact he would normally have going into contact and I think Blair lost a little confidence.

His inclusion reduces the ability of this team to play Australia quickly. By that, I mean we won't be looking to beat the Aussies up with size; the selectors have chosen a pack of forwards who use footwork at the line with the ability to make metres.

The Storm pairing of Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor indicates that and, coupled with Simon Mannering, the team is mobile.

Sam Kasiano, Frank Pritchard and Ben Matulino have amazing footwork for big boys and their added size gives presence.

Unfortunately, I do not see that with Blair. Someone like Sika Manu, who has just finished the campaign with Melbourne Storm, would have been a better option, given his size and metre gains through the year. He also fits the bill where current form and match fitness were a priority when selecting this team; a major plus over Blair with less than a week to the fixture.

Blair will give what he can but he tends to back his way into the defensive line when attacking with ball in hand these days - and that's where he loses impact. He has the ability to stand and offload in the tackle, but so do the other players who have momentum at the line.

We are missing a little old-fashioned mongrel in the team and, despite riding a fine line, Jared Warea-Hargreaves will be missed. His coming off the bench injects enthusiasm - which is what a team playing Australia demands - and he has plenty.
He has also improved and increased his 'hard yards' game in a Roosters outfit displaying little confidence as the season wound down, so he may be a little unlucky not to be included.

Despite these small reservations, I have confidence the Kiwi team can beat Australia in Townsville. They will win if they deal with the obstacles in front of them; the heat, parochialism, media, history and doubt.

Which one will be the most difficult to deal with? Only the individual can answer and apply it within the team.

When the WT signed Blair i watched a few Storm games to see what we were getting for our money,to be honest,he was less than impressive and rarely sighted.I wondered if the WT and i were looking at the same player or was i simply overlooking his involvement.Going on Blairs performance's this season we didn't get value for money and i am not totally convinced adding the 10kgs back on is going to fix the problem.

I don't think the weight is the issue either. I think he isn't that good.

He isn't a bad player - he just isn't anywhere near the worlds best forward. I'd like to see him play a lot better than what he has but I don't think it will happen. I hope I'm wrong.

Exactly O5 ,we paid overs for a average player that's not a world beater and that's probably the real issue. Blair, like any other players in the Nrl would be foolish to knock back 500k a season if someone's offering it.

I think Hugh McGahan is spot on,make a bloke lose 10kg and try and change his game,is stupid when he is an international player,no wonder he looked out of sorts,Sheens is an idiot, lets hope the new coach rectifies this straight away.

Adam Blair got his head shaved, I hope it has the reverse Samson effect.

Do something!!

Surely his top speed will increase a little, like DRS in formula one and if he shaved only half he would start to swing at top speed which would help him run into holes. Lol. It's all fun and games until you spend 500k on a clown. Oh wait......

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to put Adam Blair in the firing line. Yes he hasn't been fantastic, definitely not the $500K he is being payed, but consider a few things.

He just moved from an extremely well structured team with the likes of Slater, Cronk and Smith, to a team that has obviously been in crisis mode for the entire year, with a coach making extremely stupid decisions. How the hell is he going to figure out what his role in this team is going to be when almost every other week all the players around him were constantly switching positions.

So yes, he didn't stand out and do anything spectacular...but he was consistent. He didn't f**k up anything too major, didn't get injured once and did his job.

Now that we have a new coach, new players (including young bloods coming through) and what will become a new overall game plan, he will be able to fit his game style into this new structure and he will start ripping it up.

Look at Darius Boyd. He ripped it up for the Dragons and in Origin but for Newcastle he wasn't anything special...but he was also consistent. Now that he is used to his team, he will also be performing alot better in 2013.

I'm by no means an expert but I really have faith that Blair will show his talent next year...otherwise drop the spastic to NSW Cup haha
You cannot blame a different structure for his bone idol laziness.

A new structure doesn't prevent you from tackling, making hit ups & running as a decoy.

And when you consider what we lost to get him, then yes, he deserves to have high expectations put on him and expected of him.

Exactly !!! Judging by his time spent in a Tigers jersey he is right up there with the laziest footballers i have ever seen. If he is expected to fill the void left by Gareth Ellis i fear for our season in that regard big time

This is the second or perhaps third time I have heard Blair trying to justify his form last year, he should just STFU and do it, no more excuses...

Chris Lawrence has been quoted in today's Telegraph saying that Blair had been training the house down and is primed for a massive season. Ahhh wouldn't it be nice, I would love to eat my words in regards to Adam Blair !!! Do Tigers fans believe he still has it in him ?

It's up to Blair now to produce or could he be considered the biggest dud that the WT have signed in relation to the coin he is on ?

He'd be right up there. $500k a year for 4 years, you'd expect the best forward in the game. Unfortunately Blair looked disinterested last year, I mean IMO even Adam Blair at his peak isn't worth that money but he was deadest playing at about 30% capacity last year.

This Blair saga has gone so far I don't even know how to judge him anymore. I thought he did some decent things in the foundation cup and he got involved a bit. It's just confusing watching him now and what to expect.

I honestly think if he could just add an offload to his game, his worth would increase 50%.
