Advantage

In the last few minutes of tonights game. Pies got a clear advantage which they took and kicked what should have been the winning goal, but the ump brings it back for a free kick to Wood.

Why did they bring it back? Looking at the replay it just made no sense at all.

Fair cop on the loss as the better team won, but that was very frustrating.

is that you Mick ?

happened to Cats last year after Ling kicked a goal, they brought it back, where was the advantage, and they lost the game because of it

Wrong, they brought Lings kick back because it was a free kick to the other team, it should've been a 50 against ling.

Advantage has always been a rubbish rule.

Creates too much confusion and should be done away with.

I think its necessary but I've seen some terrible interpretations of players being called back once they are in he clear

A very dumb decision to bring this rule in to begin with, but promising signs are emerging that the AFL is thinking about axing it for 2012.

The sooner the better.

It was a bad rule to begin with.

It mostly results in blatantly unfair situations when players, conditioned by a lifetime of playing to the whistle, stop, allowing cagey hopeful types to get a free run and shot when they ignore the whistle and get lucky.

And this was when it was the umpires making the decisions.

Leaving it up to the players is, frankly, practically unmanageable.

It wouldn't surprise if they keep it and go back to having umpires make the decision.

Its not necessary in an age of 50m penalties, however, given umpires can just as easily hand out a 50 if they believe a player has been unfairly impeded after being paid an initial free.
