"The AFL know it is not going to be an easy road ahead here, but I still doubt that it ($100 million) is enough money to sustain the black hole that Carrara will create for an AFL team," Searle told the Gold Coast News.
"I think they have understated the amount of investment they need."

   How good is Searle? Has this guy got a twin brother that we can parachute into the NRL CEO role? Gold.

everything the AFL has said they want to achieve on the GC is already there in the Gold Coast Titans.

great job by gallop to get them in and michael searle to build them up like he has.

also good that searle isnt lieing down to AFL but defending his turf unlike so many others in RL that just roll over and play dead to other sports trying to steal their fans eg dennis fitzgerald

Well done Searle my respect for you has gone up a notch, him along with PhaC are the new breed no more bending over for other sports actually telling it like it is, cos at the end of the day we have a fantastic product which we have undersold (understatment) in the past....

Searle may not be everybody's cup of tea but he is not backward in coming forward for his Club - he had first chop at Carrara and flicked it - you'd think the AFL would have learnt from that - twats. Funny how Ron Clarke and the Gold Coast Council have backed away from the AFL issue after the grief they gave the Titans previously - must be an election year.

Clarke wont be back after this term, he has been an a-grade douche.

Fugg me dont pop the champagne yet.......the AFL must be flying pretty high to be able to dangle a 100million dollar carrot to relocate! 100 fuggin million they can afford!

We cant even match our grants to the salary cap yet and 8 million is our relocation carrott.

make the GC Kangaroos play out of the gabba, now that would be funny watching the lions being made to share the ground.

Well the QLD state gov have a guarantee from the AFL that any team in SE Qld prior to 2013 will have to play from the Gabba. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm going from memory.

This means I can hardly see them wantign to front up extra cash to develop a stadium on the GC for a minority sport. In fact if that agreement stands they should stand up to the AFL and tell them to get f**ked. They either play at Carrara as is or out of the Gabba...This business of the AFL having the red carpet rolled out has ended. And rightfully so.

The State Gov have already given the people of the gold coast a new stadium for their team. The AFL should fund the developments at Carrara. Sounds good to me, they seem hell bent on bankrupting themselves.

I'm loving the new premier of QLD (Beattie was OK too), she seems to know which code her constituents prefer.
Beattie was a merkin, no, hang on, they're useful. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire and her start is only slightly less arrogant than his end.

IRL, I think you may be right about that gabba clause but still, these things are all negotiable and I remain confident the State Government will come to the party when they see the dollars the AFL is talking.

AFL has friends in Cricket.

The Cricket Australia says "Build a round stadium, we'll play some one-day internationals there. It will also get some cricket world cup games... then you may see some QLD government money thrown at Cararra.

They don't play enough international cricket at the Gabba as it is. Government spending anything on Carrarra can't be justified. Not after they've already spent so much at the Robina stadium.

We're just going to have to face facts and accept that the Gold Coast has to go to the back of the line when it comes to recreational spending, and the AFL with us. I'm heatbroken. Really.
