Richmond aren't offering two first up's for Simmonds though and in reality could instruct him to Nominate for the PSD.

I am a little concerned about the agreed salary @300k a year but in all honesty if you look at his stats in years previous to this he could genuinely be our #1 ruckmen until a kid comes through.

Thompson I am a big fan of but am leaning in the same direction as you, both player and club would probably benefit from a divorce.

If Richmond does pick up two firsties out of Ottens including one of Collingwoods #7 or Nth Melbourne's #10, do you still think the 5 year contract to Wallace was a bad idea? I am strongly leaning towards it being a brilliant move especially now given they can legimately argue they are rebuilding the list.

I'm leaning more and more toward Collingwood nailing Ottens through the PSD, although Richmond still has a couple of days to get a deal through. I wouldn't rule out Hawthorn as a surprise new suitor for Ottens through the PSD if a deal doesn't get up, however, given that money will be freed-up through Thompson's departure, the impending move of Lekkas and the possible trading of high money maker, Joel Smith.

Number 10 is now obviously gone but if they cannot get the deal through with a top 10'er expect one of Melbourne's 12/13 to play a part. He will not end up at McGuireville, I can gaurentee you that.

I was stunned to read that St Kilda is making a play for Lance Whitnall. I was very keen on getting Lance to Hawthorn, particularly as I felt we could get him without having to give up anything astronomical. He's always had weight worries, but he has good smarts and given the lack of creativity inherent in our dismal forward structure, I thought he would be great to slot in at CHF while we groom tall youngsters at Box Hill.

Whitnall is truely crap. Take it as a win for the Hawks if he ends up at St Kilda mate. He is a dud and a half.

Simmonds is now certain of going to Richmond, although time is running short for an adequate deal to be cut with Fremantle. He says he'll join them through the PSD if needed, which would put Richmond in an
interesting position if deals could not be done for he and Ottens prior to 2pm on Friday. Simmonds is not a sensational ruckman, but he is rock solid and doesn't (like many other players in the position) carry major injury queries. Put it this way, if I were a Tiger fan I'd be a lot more comfortable with paying $300k for him than I would have been with Miller's crazy notion of parting with $400k a year for Dean Solomon.

I am pretty happy don't get me wrong. Just a bit itchy about getting the trade done before we have to choose between him and Brad in the PSD.

Criticism of Richmond

Which was all amazingly dealt out by Hawthorn fans.................

If you believe this, then you clearly didn't do the rounds of the football chatsites.

Richmond was hammered across the board and much more so by Collingwood, Essendon & West Coast supporters than by Hawthorn ones.

He'll end up with whoever gets the best deal-up. Geelong is still considered front runner, but as any deal will require a 3-way trade a deal with the Cats is anything but certain. It should be an interesting couple of days.

Strongly disagree. When he is on, he really ties a forward structure together.

True, but you don't have to worry overtly unless Friday arrives and no deals have been struck, as this is when the club will most likely choose to lessen its demands rather than risk missing out entirely.

On a side note, didnt Smith lay Brown out at the start of the year?

Pretty happy with how the Demons have gone in this trade period.

Pick 12 for Thompson was a bit on the light side, but I think it was probably the best we could do given he was going to return to Adelaide one way or the other. Just happy we got something for him instead of losing him for nothing in the PSD.

Then there was the trading of Jolly to Sydney for pick 15!! I couldn't believe it... what a steal!! I think the offer Carlton had on the table was a 30 something pick + a fringe player, so this definitely makes up for the Thompson trade.

Then there is the news of Melbourne possibly helping Ottens get to Geelong and in return picking up Maloney. If this come to fruition I'll be a very happy camper!

All in all, we're in a very healthy position going into the final day tomorrow. With picks 12, 13 & 15 at our disposal I expect us to get heavily involved.

Go Dees!! :D

Great deal for Geelong & Melbourne. Not sure about Richmond. Geelong get him alot cheaper than what would have been otherwise neccesary, Melbourne pick up a pretty good player.

The positive for Richmond is we now have 5 in the first twenty with 1, 4, 16, 20 and one of 12, 13, 15

Let the building of the new Richmond begin

Definately picked up a great deal here the Dees, no need to Jolly and Sydney desperate for a ruckman = A sensational trade.

Hadn't read the AGE yet...

The key to the yet-to-be ratified deal was Melbourne obtaining
Geelong's young midfielder Brent Moloney while Carlton arranged to
swap first- and second-round draft picks, giving the Tigers the
critical pick inside the draft's top 10 that they made an
unconditional part of any Ottens trade

Even better :D That would mean we would have 1, 4, 9 ?

We ended up with 12 & 16 for Ottens :(

Although the positive is they got the Simmonds deal through without giving up #20 -

Heath Black to Fremantle
Troy Simmonds to Richmond
Aaron Fiora to St Kilda (wtf they are thinking i have no idea)

This frees up #1 in the pre-season... I'll say it hear and now ... Patty Bowden from the Dogs.

Not a bad result for mine... Gives the Tigers picks 1, 4, 12 & 16 in the first round, which isn't too shabby.

Disappointed with Hawthorn's conclusion to the week.

I like Joel Smith, but I was hoping to send him off to Collingwood for pick 7 (glad the club didn't buy the bullshit pick 23 offer they had on the table though). Happy to have got pick 7 anyway, although the loss of pick 10 in the process tempers that somewhat. Don't know squat about Bo Nixon, but given the lack of kpp at the club (Holland & Barker no longer count) I'll accept him gratefully.

I really would have liked to have gotten hold of any of Cain Ackland, Lance Whitnall or Chad Morrison. If either of the first two pop-up in the PSD we'll quickly part with second pick, no wucks.

On the downside, I really, really had my hopes up about offloading Angelo Lekkas to Carlton :(

Oh well, at least nobody ended up getting shafted by Essendon.

A final point on Freo... What were they thinking offloading their top 3 picks on Josh Carr? Good player, but the club is clearly short of being able to top-up for a premiership.

Looks good on the surface, although the Demons would be hoping that nothing happens to White in 2005.

LOL

They don't amble over on the Collingwood AFL.com affiliate website...

Scarcely an hour after the end of trade week, and already the Bo Nixon profile on their players page carries a picture of Bo in his new brown & gold jumper!

Angelo Lekkas, a pretty boy???!!!

At any rate, 12 months is a bloody long time in football... It wasn't that long ago that he was just off All-Australian pace, and while he may regain form, its his attitude that had me so eager to make the trade.

Besides, you are always attacking every Hawthorn player (past, present & future) in your frequent anti-Hawk tirades, so it stands to reason that inevitably we will fall into synch in our views on somebody. :p

Mate the Hawks ended with ... 2,5,7,21 - I'm missing one?!

No, that's it, with 26 also likely to snare a capable type.

With Ryan Griffen almost certain to be taken behind Deledio at 2, I would then be hoping to nail Roughhead at 5 and the next best midfield type at 7.

Richmond or the Hounds may beat us to Roughhead should either decide that he is a better risk than Franklin (given the boy comes from WA).

Would love to nail Tambling with pick 7, but can't see the Bulldogs passing him up with both picks. That being said, both Richmond & the Bulldogs would be looking for at least 1 kpp type, so who knows?

Two first round picks for Thompson though?!

Nah, mate...

We got 10 & 26 for Thompson, with 10 traded to Collingwood in exchange for 7, as part of the Nixon trade.
