Two things:
With regards to suing, no problem with that...I was waiting for it and I'm sure the NRL were as well.
This is something anyone would go through.

With regards to Cam Smith, not discounting how douchey he was at the time but also a few points.
1. He didn't know the extent of the injury, sure it was bad but quadriplegia? No.Especially because that tackle was identical to many each week.
2.He was completely inconsiderate, yes, however...his story isn't about Smith, Smith didn't do that tackle and it isn't Smith's fault that these situations happen.
I just don't get why his apology would be even a blip, especially considering the effort made by the Storm and living your first year as a quadriplegic.

I find it a little coincidental that it's around the time he's releasing a book.
I'm also side eyeing those that just couldn't wait to dig the knife into Smith, all NSW supporters no less.

Storm responds to the dickhead

The statement reads:

“Melbourne Storm today reiterated that its thoughts and best wishes remain with Alex McKinnon for his continued recovery. His story continues to inspire the rugby league community.

In relation to specific references regarding our club in media reports published today, Storm would like to make the following points:

1. At the time of this tragic accident, no one on the field had any idea of the severity of the injury Alex had suffered. All at Storm and especially the playing group were shocked and horrified to learn of Alex’s injuries in the days after the event;

2. Storm players led by captain Cameron Smith requested to visit Alex in hospital numerous times while he was in Melbourne. The requests were declined which was totally understandable given Alex needed to focus on the initial stages of his recovery;

3. Storm’s Football Director continued to liaise with his Newcastle equivalent regarding the right time for club players to contact Alex in the weeks and months after the incident;

4. Cameron Smith was proud to launch the #riseforalex round last year alongside Paul Gallen, as well as to wear Alex’s jersey number at Storm’s game in Melbourne in the same round. Storm’s fans raised more than $20,000 for Alex that day alone.

Storm sincerely wishes Alex and his family all the absolute best for his continued recovery.”

What the footage of the incident, and see just how glaringly obvious it is that Mckinnon is in serious, serious trouble. He is screaming, moaning, and slurring his words yelling "I can't breathe" and "I can't movfe my arms". Anyone within 20 metres of him would have heard what was going on and known that something was very wrong.

FFS the ref tried to tell Smith to go away and let him tend to Alex and he just kept going.

The tackle was obviously not Smith's fault. Having a complete lack of any sort of decency is absolutely Smith's fault.

It wouldn't even matter if Smith decided to try and apologise to him privately weeks or months later. Alex in no way has to speak with him or accept it. Everyone else on that field reacted the way a normal person would (worried about what they had just witnessed), while Smith only saw that his precious side has just given away 2 points and wanted to argue about it.

Agree about Birmingham, how does that clown get a gig talking about Rugby League. His cringe worthy impressions are just a shit as his League talk.

I enjoyed Billy Birmingham far more back in the days when nobody knew who he was. He was just the 12th man, made funny CD's taking the mick out of Benaud, Lawry, Greig etc. when he started appearing on TV and now on radio as a pundit, he lost his appeal for me. Hes also constantly interrupting or talking over people on that radio show. So annoying.

Going to have to have a shower after watching this god awful program. How many times are they going to show the tackle? I think we're up to about 6 already not even 20 minutes in.

Not sure if the Smith stuff is finished but it lasted about 20 seconds and involved one quote from McKinnon saying pretty much what everyone would in that situation. :roll:

It's got me f**ked why anyone would even watch 60 minutes
They could advertise a reveal of tomorrow nights lottery numbers and i still wouldnt watch it.

I guess this is how they continue to get ratings. :/

Can't have media organizations criticise the game of Rugby League...
