Worth noting, according to the Storms press release today, they tried to contact McKinnon a number of times and were denied access by the Knights

If accurate, hard to complain about a lack of apology when the lines of communication were blocked by Alex's club

They said they couldn't visit him in the couple of days after. If Smith thought he acted like a dickhead (which most think so, even Wayne said he got it wrong) then he could have apologised any time he liked. Doesn't have to be in person (he was in a coma for that first week anyway wasn't he?)

I'd be certain it's a load of shit by Melbourne in attempt to save face.

Maybe. I'd like to hear from the Knights regarding that claim. If they deny it, certainly not going to give the BOTD to the Storm's management given the history of that club
Im sure if what the Storm say is correct, there will be emails etc to back up their claim.

"sorry Storm, you can't talk to the guy in an induced coma"

Sounds entirely plausible, and in no way a reason to give up on contact later on.

But carry on.

Even still it wouldn't have been hard for Smith to get McKinnon's mobile number and send him a message wishing him the best.

Also McLean was able to make contact eventually, so I don't buy that excuse from the Storm.

Any way you look at it, Smith could've made the effort to contact him in the last year and a half if he really wanted to.

Didnt watch it tonight, so is he (Alex) more p1ssed at Smith's comments at the time or more the fact he hasnt tried to make contact with him?

I remember what Smith said straight after Alex was carried off, and everyone was telling Smith to STFU, but not knowing the full extent of Alex's injury.

If a judge in a court of law decides he is entitled to money he should get everything he can. The only people who disagree are people who have no idea what his life is like.

If you are put in a wheelchair playing a sport that has billion dollar revenue you should never have to worry about affording healthcare. Like Wayne Bennett said the issue isn't now but in 30 years when everyone has forgotten about him.

I had always assumed that comps like the NRL had insurance plans that were good enough for this to be a non issue.

Quoted for posterity.

We all saw the same type of contemptuous denial (in spite of the absolute obviousness) by so called storm fans during the salary cap & tackle wrestling controversies.

Comments here show that the Melbourne Storm is infected with fans that actually despise rugby league..... must be afl fans displaying malice.

They showed alex the footage of the incident for the first time. He said "He's still going, is he f**king serious?"

Then later on "I'm being stretchered off, theres 30 seconds left in the half and he's still worried about it being a penalty". Chick asked if he apologied - no. Would he like an apology - not really, just shows the type of person he is.

It wasn't a whole "I hate cameron smith, it's his fault, yada yada yada." Just basically calling him out as being a grub for the way he acted after.

"THE MAN WHO WON'T SAY SORRY!!!" screams Liz Hayes and 60 Minutes.

Then...

"Has Cameron Smith tried to make contact?"

"No. Well, I Don't know if he tried to make contact through the club..."

well, given the information that came to light in the media release that's not really the same thing as being able to state to a moral certainty that he DIDN'T try to make contact is it?

At least Wayne Bennett had a bit of clarity of thinking to speak rationally about Cam and his character. As for McKinnon Snr, is he going to hold a grudge against every member of the rugby league community who holds the belief that Alex may have contributed to his own misfortune? And where are the Newcastle club in all of this? Surely there is someone there that can corroborate the statements made in Melbourne's media release.

I hope Cameron Smith responds in kind.
