Sadly it won't be the last time the DT try and exploit this tragedy for their own gain.
Melbourne are cheating scum that is for sure, but it was an accident.
Yep. It's pretty rich to hear the knights complain about it, yet they engage in it, as much, if not more than most. Jeremy Smith is top 3-4 in the league for this crap.
Shit or get off the pot.
Bennett is in a position to do something about it, and chooses not to because he wants to win, that's on him as much as it's on Bellemy or any other coach.
IMO, the statement was a pretty classless. They don't need to try and go to war over this accident.
If you ban 3 man tackles then stripping the ball should be allowed by the 2 defenders
Missed the point completely. And probably intentionally.
This event might not have been intentional, but it was avoidable.
Melbourne introduced these gang wrestling tactics. They are so successful that they have changed the way defence is played. Any team not employing them will be left behind.
And I wonder where Jezza learned his craft.
Bill Harrigan said overnight that banning 3 man tackles would not necessarily stop a similar incident occurring as to what happened to Alex McKinnon. There have been plenty of lifting tackles involving 1 or 2 tacklers.
As to the Knights statement, they are entitled to make it. However in the circumstances, whether you agree with it or not, the timing of it is just adding more fuel to the fire in this situation and does not help anyone in my opinion at all.
When were they supposed to release it? A statement from the Knights on it was inevitable. Of the plethora of people they want the thoughts of re the McLean verdict the Knights were always going to be up the top of that list.
I agree that Melbourne introduced all this wrestling/grappling shit into the game. Grapple tackles. Crushers, Chicken wings etc....Bellamy is going to leave a lovely legacy, salary cap cheating and these new/illegal tackles and techniques. Despite all that it is still an accident on Jordans part.

So the day after the judiciary hearing was a good time was it? Making it a public statement via media release is the best way to communicate with the NRL is it? Does it accomplish anything other than keep the heat in the matter?

What did you want the Knights to do? Sit back while it's being said that Alex has done this to himself? Gimme a break.
Really? I didn't realise that a person's defence, whether it is a load of b/s or not needs to be picked apart AFTER the event by one of the aggrieved parties. Does it achieve anything? No. Does it avoid repeatrs of what happened? No. Has it achieved anything positive at all?
Further, do you really think any person thinks Alex did it to himself re: his injury? I don't so don't put words in my mouth or impute things which I have not said thank you.
I am happy he is taking it to the courts, all parties need to be held legally responsible. There will be a zillion lawyers that will have their easiest pay day of their career!
Yeah it will be fantastic for Rugby League.....
