Word going around he's been put into an induced coma.

Absolutely devastated for the guy and his family. All we can do is pray and wish him well.

Good god no....is this a life threatening injury ? Devastated for the kid....his whole future ....gone.

Oh sh*t. It really sickens me the way Smith carried on now in light of Alex's condition. I think it goes without saying that his career is over but that's the last of his worries at the moment. I really feel for his family as well and my best wishes go out to all of them.

The induced coma part sounds horrible and I hope we're getting the full story and it's just a precaution like they said and nothing worse. Get well soon Alex! You'll get there mate.

Not always and i don't think it is in Alex's case. More to do with the pain he is going through whilst recovering from the surgery

Just want to say how proud I am of the other fans from other clubs who have been so supportive of Alex and our club. We need it. This has absolutely rocked me personally. Very sad inside today. I was nearly sick last night. Knowing the extent of what he was enduring having seen this plenty of times before makes it all the more difficult.

this whole story is like some really bad dream. our season started not well and just went to shit in a big way. I'd take the spoon with open arms to have Alex back the way he was. I'm anxious for news he can at least move.

I hope we get a huge turnout Sunday and the whole club shows it support for Alex and his family. Retire the 11 for the time being as a mark of respect. Show the league community that this has affected our town and club very deeply. Really we get to show what sets us apart from the rest. I honestly believe this will strengthen Bennett's resolve to stay on now. Notably he said we are all friends and close at the club. He was very upset by all accounts by what happened and he rarely shows that sort of emotion. I doubt the boys will train much this week. They need time off. Frankly the season for me means little now. I would give it all back for Alex to be ok.

So I'm not the only fan who has been sick and sad all day.
Can't stop thinking about the poor bloke. Without a doubt the worst thing i've ever seen on a football field.

For those wondering the induced coma is to prevent any movement as he recovers from the surgery he underwent.

Yeah i think we all understand that one. As has been said elsewhere it is is just beyond surreal now that the true severity is known. Sunday is going to be very hard on everyone. So glad Wayne is our coach. The one man who can get the boys through it.

Good luck Alex ...... I honestly don't believe Maclean meant to hurt him , but the accident is a result of the methods Melbourne use in defence.
And I cannot for the life of me believe those idiot Storm supporters (and players for that matter) who can somehow not only absolve their boy of blame but have the gall to apportion any fault at all to the victim. Unbelievable!
Keep your eyes on the big picture people, a 22 year old with a serious prospect of severe handicap.

This is such a terrible injury and has certainly affected all league fans that I know. We all complain when our teams lose but something like this should make everyone have a look at the bigger picture. I truly hope Alex has a speedy recovery and all the best to you guys for the rest of the season.

I'm devastated. Spoke to him on a number of occasions and I thought he was one of the most humble young men I'd ever had the pleasure of meeting. I had no doubt he was destined to captain the club.

Close to tears right now. I just hope we see him in the stands soon. He'll certainly be around the club for the rest of his life.
