Amone guilty.

The only variable the legal system imposed was the terms of penalty. He won't be incarcerated. He is still guilty of the crime. Losing your job isn't a greater sentence. It's at the discretion of the employer.
Agreed TS, but the point is he is outside now, not inside as most predicted.

I believe the club will sit back and let the NRL Integrity Unit make the call.

If the club is lucky, the Unit deregisters Jr A.

If we are unlucky they suspend him from playing for half a season.

Key points:

  • The court heard that Junior Amone's father urged him on during the assault
  • Talatau "Dal" Amone was sentenced to 12 months behind bars, which may be appealed
  • The St. George Illawarra Dragons says it will work with the NRL Integrity Unit to determine the "next appropriate steps"

Well done on the call as a practical matter. I salute you.

Albeit technically, he has been sentenced to a term of Imprisonment under section 7.

I formed the belief the conduct was too heinous to escape the law’s harshest of punishments. I saw it at the upper end.

I am concerned that with all the publicity this case has generated, that some impressionable young people will get the wrong message about what is right and what is wrong.
Now he's had this convviction he can't afford a slip up or he will join his old man in the big house.

I hope we punt him.

Feel for the poor tradies involved, especially the one who got chased off a roof causing him to sustain injuries. All he did was arrive for a normal days work & he's left with a traumatic experience. I hope they sue the Amone's for all they're worth. Think I read the comp they received is 13k but surely they should be getting more. He might never work in his profession again. Poor bloke.

Re Amone, this is a real line in the sand moment for Flanno to mark down his cultural standards. Imo he should strongly recommend the board to punt Amone for his actions that have blighted the club. BUT I can unfortunately see a situation due to our poor halves depth where we stick with Amone. I can also see the NRL giving Amone a suspension similar to that of Dylan Brown which is weak.

I hope Amone is punted but I doubt it'll happen.

Simple
Remove him in every way shape and form
from St. George.
If he get picked up by someone else -
fair enough.
Use him as example - these idiots won’t listen
You can’t have NRL players roaming around town making up their own rules.
There is always another ready player ready to rise.
They are not special.
They are however expendable.

Interesting!

Penalty should be handed down by nrl. Not the individual team.

if the nrl de register that’s fine, as is they suspend the contract. The individual team should not have to take the responsibility, and should have the right to the player if they want them after the event. That doesn’t mean I would want him to play for us again, though I do approve second chances after the person has paid for their crimes.

cant comment further when we don’t know the ICO conditions, not the response of the nrl (or team)

So sad that his father urged him on. I know we aren't aware of the full story, but knowing your son is a professional athlete with professional, let alone regular, obligations to be a functioning member of society and still encouraging him to almost throw that all away is heartbreaking to see.

EDIT: Just read the line, "Go on, kill him". Makes it even sadder from all angles honestly

Yeah, but there was no evidence of duress by pa.

Junior was a willing participant, he knew right from wrong.

Stomping all over the windscreen was more than enough to illustrate being upset with a parking on the nature strip.

He should have told his dad to chill.

It’s ok to disobey your dad. My lad barely listens to me anyway!

Won’t play footy, supports Penrith, nothing I can do about it.

He definitely should've - but he kept going, so I guess he takes after his Dad in a way. Disappointing to see people raising their kids like that. Tbh the Dad deserves to serve most of, if not all of his sentence even though he's still got young kids.

Yeah.

Pa has the values and ways of seeing the world that he’s passed on to Junior over many years.

Hence junior is more susceptible to his instructions. Not because he’s just taken there by his dad at the time, he’s not a robot, but because he truly believes the response is justified.

And that way of the world is ingrained.

And maybe he shouldn’t be connected to the club in any way.

As he gets older, you don’t know whether or not he’s going to hand these values to youngsters.

I get the general uneasiness of players with the criminal justice system, young and questioning.

But this was a totally f**ked up thing to do to roofie.

Some lines can’t be crossed.

I understand the response of the majority of forum members.

But I ask you all, if the legal system handed down such a sentence, what gives the NRL and the club the right to impose a greater sentence ?
the NRL and dragons will not be sentencing amone. More than likely deregistering or suspending him for breach of contract

Roofie and co are probably going to take almost everything junior and pa own.

There’s another penalty.

We spoke about it before, the whole family is going to be sentenced.

The innocent women folk and close others.

I feel for them a lot more than Junior and Pa.

If there's a clause in his contract about bringing the game/club into disrepute (which there is in the standard contract), they absolutely can tear his contract up immediately.
Yep they can ditch him immediately but will be leaving themselves exposed if he appeals and wins. Smart move just sit back and wait then make a decision
