You know your f**ed when your chairman starts "not" describing you as arrogant! V'Landys really does have the media in his pocket doesnt he? He is manipulating this well to get his way. Very Machiavellian and probably a worrying sign of his character and leadership.

As pressure mounts on a decision to be made on NRL CEO Todd Greenberg’s future, ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys has revealed that some clubs find Greenberg to be arrogant.
While denying that he himself feels the same way, V’landys did admit that Greenberg’s image was tainted.

“Some clubs do find him arrogant,” V’landys told The Sydney Morning Herald .

NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg put forward his case to remain at the helm of the sport at a private meeting with members of the ARL Commission on Tuesday night.

The Sydney Morning Herald has been told that Greenberg met with the sub-committee entrusted with putting forward a recommendation to the full commission on whether he should be awarded a new contract. The commission meeting will be held next Thursday.

The three-man sub-committee, which is comprised of ARLC chairman Peter V'landys and commissioners Dr Gary Weiss and Wayne Pearce, met with Greenberg after weeks of speculation surrounding his future.

While Greenberg, who is off contract later this year, is in danger of losing his job, the meeting was essentially his final performance review before next week's decisive meeting.

The fact the meeting took place refutes suggestions Greenberg and V'landys are no longer on speaking terms despite the pair not seeing eye to eye over the dealings surrounding the CEO's contract.
The meeting also came on the same day as commissioner Amanda Laing resigned from her position with the ARLC, with some of the opinion it will swing numbers favourably if V'landys decides against renewing his chief executive's tenure.

Despite V'landys previously stating he didn't believe it was a conflict to have Laing on the board due to her position as Foxtel's chief commercial officer, she stood down citing a potential conflict of interest ahead of upcoming broadcast rights negotiations.

There are now two vacancies on the commission, with Mark Coyne having resigned last year after he was detained in Singapore following his arrest for verbally abusing a policeman while drunk.

It is unlikely that replacements for Coyne or Laing will be determined at the next board meeting.

A former player with a strong knowledge about the game, knows the rules inside and out and is a natural leader. Also current president of the RLPA. That's too sensible for the NRL.
You forgot to mention the self-interest vital to keeping Rugby League from achieving its potential.

I listened to Gould's podcast. He made some interesting comments about Todd and V'landy's. He is a big fan of V'landys and thinks Greenberg and the NRL aren't showing enough long term vision for the game, which is probably true. Gould thinks that's why Greenberg's job is under review.

Watching today’s presser it’s clear the chairman wants to run operations, Todd is a dead man walking.

Todd Greenberg has been bought some time with the Coronavirus. They have put off the decision on his future because there is too much going on right now and the priority is keeping the game afloat.

Gus Gould said on his podcast that the time to cry over spilt milk is not right now and basically it's all hands on deck to get through this crisis. And some powerbrokers in the game are upset because the game has burned through a billion and its not sitting as well off as the AFL which has assets creating revenue and plenty of money in the bank to weather the storm. Gould said if the NRL can get through this crisis then there will be definitely a review of how the NRL reached to this point which won't likely reflect well on previous management and administration.

Commission set the strategy. Start there. I actually think Todd has handled himself well in the rare opportunities Vlandys let’s him speak.
