He's currently vying for 3rd best hooker coming off the bench
Andrew Johns played hooker for NSW too and he is considered the greatest halfback of all time. The NSW selectors have been pathetic since the early 80's. Sterling and Kenny played very few games together as halfback and 5/8 for NSW and they are the best pair of halves I have ever seen. I actually see some similarities between Hunt and Andrew Johns.

Hunt is a halfback and will be the best halfback we have had since Billy Smith, who I never saw play. If Mcculloch was available, Hunt would be starting for Brisbane at halfback. I don't think that Bennett has got the best out of Hunt.

Smith was tough, uncompromising, fearless, creative, unselfish and highly skilled with a great head for reading what was in front of him
If Hunt gets to 75% of Smith he'll be a beauty.
For the record some people also forget how versatile Smith was as he played centre a fair bit during his career including in winning GF's.

He's still pretty fearless on the schooners of Tooheys New up Caringbah Inn most days too.

Difference of course is Billy had a coach that new what he was doing.

A LOT has been said about Ben Hunt’s impending move to St George Illawarra next season.
From being dropped to reserve grade, to being moved from the halves to hooker, the jury is out on whether the Red V’s decision to sign Hunt to one of the largest deals in NRL history will prove good business or blow up in their face.

Only time will tell.

MORE NEGATIVE CRAP FROM THE MEDIA!

Agree, what a load of tripe. The media can't stop themselves. He's one of the top halves in the comp.

He's only been moved to dummy half because he's a much better defender than nikorima & doesn't need to be hidden in defence like they would have to do with nikorima. The broncos imo are weaker without hunt at 7.

You're right about that and maybe Hunt will fill a massive gap and obvious weakness we have had for many years.
Billy Smith was special for lots of reasons.
Tough little rooster who could not be intimidated.
Lightning quick off the mark.
Scheming and clever halfback that was always creating chances for a sparkling St. George backline of the era.
Finally, his combination with Langlands was uncanny. They just knew each others games blind folded.
Almost impossible to defend against.
My most severe reservation is that Hunt still needs a strong coaching structure to ensure we get the best out of him.
Andrew Johns was a fantastic halfback but had Mal Reilly as his is coach early on and later Michael Hagan when Newcastle won the premiership in 2001.
Sterling was coached by the great Jack Gibson and later on John Monie. Won 4 premiership.
Billy Smith was coached by the great Norm Provan and late in his career by Jack Gibson (1971 GF)
Won a stack of premierships.
You can't expect good/great players to do their best unless they have a good coach.
All these great half backs have one thing in common.
They all won multiple premierships under great coaches.
Unfortunately, Hunt and the rest of our promising squad will never win a premiership under McGregor.

Him being dropped to Q Cup & the negative press that came with it had the reverse effect and he has been one of the Broncos best. Seems to me he responded like a champion(not saying that you think he hasn't).

Regardless, there is still a school of thought that he is yet to answer the question of whether he is worth what we will reportedly be paying him.

To suggest that is purely driven by a "negative" press is incredibly naive.
