I doubt anderson would be sacked soley on the reason of not making the finals. There would have to be a few players complaining in my opinion.Thou considering the team he has and id say the least amount of injuries to any club and the fact there is only 15 teams this year.Notthing but a top 8 spot would be horendous.Iamgine we did have injuries?

You're right about the injuries. We have been blessed and our performances are because the team are poorly prepared and not mentally tough enough to compete. There can be no other reason for it. We have the cattle to make the finals, obviously.

I'm still not sure whether we have been inconsistent because of the coaching or if it's because we just generally haven't put in (the players).

Firstly, this the Telecrap we are talking about. Hardly a reliable source. How many times have they run a similar article? Last year, how much crap did they sprout on about Parramatta making the wrong decision by hiring a coach who has only ‘coached park football’ & then, in the same breath, stating that Stephen Kearney would be a much better choice – overlooking the fact he has NEVER coached a first grade side???

Secondly, no one can dispute Anderson’s coaching credentials. He got the Warriors to the finals for the first time in his first year there. Then they made the GF the following year. He moved on from there to have A LOT of success in the ESL. Then, finally, he gets handed a dud side at the Eels, put together by a dud coach (who now has a history of leaving clubs in a mess). At the start of last season, everyone was prepared for the worst. ‘As long as we avoided the wooden spoon, he would have done a great job’ is what many on this forum were saying. Did he lean on this crutch? Did he take this excuse? No. He took a rabble & made history – by becoming the first team in the history of the NRL to make the GF from 8th. But this has turned out to be his big mistake. He is now paying for over-achievement. Those who know very little about what it takes to coach a team are again seizing their opportunity to point the finger.

Thirdly, regarding team selection & new recruits, I am of the same opinion as eels81236. It would seem that Anderson does not get complete control over his team. The obvious example: We all know Mortimer has been struggling all season. It would seem to me that Anderson was instructed (for whatever reason) that Mortimer cannot be dropped. Maybe it is to do with what is in Mortimer’s contract. In Ozzie & the board’s ridiculous haste to sign a “Mortimer” before the Dogs, maybe certain “promises” were made. A guaranteed spot in first grade or maybe it was having a prominent 3rd party sponsor only come on board if Mortimer was in the starting 17. Who knows? But as soon as it was leaked that Mortimer was to be “rested” last night, the knives came out for Anderson. Coincidence? Perhaps. The signing of Tahu also springs to mind. I never remember Anderson coming out & saying “I want Tahu”. It all came from Ozzie & the board. I also remember hearing on this forum about how Tim Smith was being looked at by Anderson – but who torpedoed that idea? Ozzie & the board. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to find out this crusade to get rid of Anderson & make his job as difficult as possible in the meantime stems from some ridiculous grudge being held because Fitzgerald appointed him.

I, for one, support Anderson staying & being given full control over the NRL squad. Let him build his team. He earned the right to have more time last season. One last thing, in hindsight, maybe keeping Fitzgerald would not have been such a bad thing. We now appear to have a board of knuckle-heads struggling to keep the promises they made before election. Food for thought.

Geez, it's not rocket science coming up with the only reason for why Ossie would have been meeting Kearney in Melbourne... many people didn't need Rothfield to make it clear for them.

Talk to any of those "in the know" about the club on here and they'll tell you exactly which Board members are anti-DA. Thankfully the panic merchants who would seek to terminate contracts early are in a minority on the Board (last I heard).

It's got everything to do with the RIDICULOUS promises about on-field performance made by some prior to the last Board elections. It's very disappointing, regardless of whether Rothfield is used as a distraction to the current Board's manoeuvres or not.

No, it's not rocket science, and IMO, the board are looking at options because they're not happy with whats been going on. They have every right to be looking at Andersons tenure given the poor performance on field and the mess the squad looks like for next year.

What I am questioning is the accuracy of Slothfield saying a decision on Anderson is linked directly to the board elections in April. No quotes. Nothing. Just some Rothfield speculation some people choose to believe because it suits them, just like some people choose NOT to believe him on other occasions because it suits them.

We've disappointed this year, and recruitment is looking ordinary - elections or no elections.

Me, I'm still waiting on Rothfield to reveal those 2 big signings

If he is sacked it will be one of the most disgraceful decisions ever made by a football club board.

And although I will always be an Eels man, it would leave a very bitter taste in my mouth when watching them play for some time to come.

Kearney to replace Anderson? :sarcasm:

A new coach failing in his first year to make the top eight is understandable. He is rebuilding and restructuring.

But when a coach in his second year fails to make the top 8 then he should be sacked. His vision has all but failed.

Whats worse is DA has been handed one of the most talented and skilled team in the NRL and simply could do nothing with them. Apart from The Chosen Ones inspired GrandFinal run, take him out and Parra would be fighting for the wooden spoon. Lets not forget the single most loss of junior players in one year leaving our club.

DA has shown as a coach he cannot get the best out of our players....(Mateo, Inu), any game structure, passion or future recruiting plans.

But what DA lacks it what makes a GREAT coach. A GREAT coach fires up his team every week, inspires his players and generates passion, pride and respect. This is what wins games. You can have all the attack, defence plans you want but when players don't turn up, its over.

I hope we make the finals. We can do it. But its because the players are now playing for each other.... not for DA. Its the teams last year together before some leave or retire. This might be whats needed to give us a fighting spirit our coach has failed to inspire.

Now the club is deserting him. We are recruiting players without his knowing or consent. Clearly he is coaching his last year. Time for a different coach. DA had his chance and blew it. Goodbye and good riddance.

ok so according to your logic. It was all hayne last year & not anything ando did.

So since that is your logic this year is all haynes fault.

If you recall last year against the dragons. Ando sent the team out with no gameplan. We got thumped 30 nil. He later revealed he did that on purpose because he knew we would on ly get 1good shot at them

His game plan won us the game. That dispells anyones theory he has no game plan.

If we get a halfback that can control we are a top 4 team. We lost 3 games by under 6 points this year because we couldnt et a short kicking game in. Any other half back & we are top 4 & you are not posting on the forum

According to your logic 7 coaches a year should be sacked because they fail to make the semis.

well I guess he has to sell newspapers, prolly wont tell us much

What has been disappointing since 3P started their campaign and after the election, is the constant and deliberate drip feeding of the media from within the club.

Player acquisitions are one thing, but the fact that the board are considering other options regarding the coach must be kept confidential. Who in their right mind who inform the media of this ? What benefit is there for anyone ?

Hope he stays, he is rebuilding our side. In fact I would be happy to give him a one years extension. Then if our form doesn't improve we get another coach.

Lets not the forget wasn't it the same media outlet about 2 years which reported that Kearney had signed to coach penrith . And guess what Kearney is still in Melbourbe and elliot is still coach of penrith

Also didn't Mark on this site report that Ossie was in Brisbane all week ?

According to the article. if he doesnt make the grandfinal he is gone. Wow.

That means every coach's criteria should be semi's or your gone. If these football heads reaslised the rabble we were in before he came along. We had players that wouldn't even turn up to training when required. Would have a cry when they were held accountable for playing like sh*t.

So now we have a coach that bleeds blue & gold. Has a proven track record of success. does hold everyone accountable for there actions on the field. Has changed the culture from what it was to haveing pride in the club again.

So they want to hire a coach that has no coaching credientials. Has come from a club that has gotten success from rorting the salary cap for 5 years now.

That will do me. We are only 1 player away from action being a top 4 side. That is just a average halfback who can kick long & short & pass to the backline when required. If our board does not see that then i hope they are all punted at the next election & fitzgerald is bought back. At least he had the balls to actually see out a coaches contract.

The players he inherited are lazy asses. So because thge boss trains them hard & expects the best they have a whinge.

Inu as much as i loved him i am glad he is leaving. Mateo i wish stayed only if he put in every game & actually changed his attitude & really got fit.

Look at elliot. He finally got a team he wanted & they will now challenge for the title the next 3 years. So since anddo over achieved as coach last year he pays the price this year.

As much as i love the club. If they do this & show unloyalty to our coach then i will show my loyalty by no longer following them until they regain my trust again. This will make us a laughing stock. Kearney well then have the excuse its not my team so i can take responisibility.

If our club is serious then they will show loyalty to the coach & that will tell our players he is the boss. Players dont run the team they coach does. If they get there own way again i hope they clean the lot of them out because they don't deserve to wear the jersey.

Good post Spartan2153

You want to renovate a house, its a huge renovation, you contract the builder to do the job and in the midst of the knock-down stage of the renovations the house is in a f**king mess and so the owners want to find another builder to clean up the f**king knock-down mess before completing all the new renovations, the very same renovations the original builder has yet to get started on properly.......

This shows you how f**king stupid and self-centered some of these 3P board members are.

Daniel Anderson needs to be given the freedom and trust to professional perform his job of rebuilding the Eels Squad into the image that he, the fans and the management dream for .... GF success.....

f**k off 3P.....

Because two board members feel that they are indebted to the Telegraph.
