Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'm sure Archer doesn't rate highly amongst the posts already posted here about NRL refs this year.

prefer archer to most of the aussie refs to be honest, and he is 'nuetral' which we all scream for.

chalmers seems to be going from bad to worse.

He's out of control and no one can reign him in......the situation is completely
shagged.

I can't believe it was allowed to get to this stage.

In comparison to what we've had, I'm okay with Chalmers at this stage. We all know that the Aussies and the Poms wield the power. What's wrong with keeping them honest?

Steve Kilgallon is the person writing and sensationalising these issues. If the Poms didn't follow protocol, I'd be speaking out as well. We use this forum to vent our frustrations, it's unfortunate that Chalmer's frustration is portrayed in a negative tone. If you disagree, relook at the article and replace certain words that would make it less negative.

Eg. insists, demanding, strong worded attack, and what does part time police prosecutor add to the story?

I've got nothing wrong with Killer's article. He's probably the most balanced league journalist going around at the moment. Chalmers' comments yesterday were strongly worded, and he is trying to demand things. That much is clear in the dialogue alone.

Chalmers had a point, he just went about getting it across the wrong way I reckon.

Can some one tell me why Andrew Chalmers is on tour with the Kiwis? Shouldnt he be back home sorting out the sh*t that is happening in the Districts??

So with him over there that is what about $5-10,000 down the toliet! If they cancel the sevens next year because of "lack of funds" watch out NZRL!!

Chalmers is just the latest in a very long line of ameteur hacks revolving around the 'buddy' mentality. Problem is, they are so incestuous they can't see a problem, they honestly think they're doind a good job. Don't know what you can do to remove them, or get professionalism in there.

Sad for the game, it either stagnates or goes backwards. Always will until things at the top change.

I reckon he should learn to keep his mouth shut before he makes a fool out of himself and NZRL.

Chalmers is throwing money around like it's water. Since he came in the NZRL has taken on three officers all on at least $50,000 a year....do you think the NZRL can afford that? Add to that the fact that he is touring around with the Kiwis and All Golds and you have to ask questions, i mean what is the point of him being there and what is the game here in NZ gaining from him being there?

Hugh McGahan: Chalmers should save indignation for boardroom
5:00AM Sunday October 28, 2007
By Hugh McGahan

"...For me the reason for the outbursts is for Andrew Chalmers, on behalf of the New Zealand Rugby League, to be viewed as a strong advocate for all members of the International Federation to be equal and not just a name on a sheet of paper.

There has long been a perception that the Australians control the game because of the strength of their domestic competition and their dominance on the international scene. Actually this perception is the truth and, despite denials by the Aussies, they strongly influence the nature and charter of the game of rugby league.

Their administrators have been strong and charismatic characters with the determination that Australia will continue to dominate on the field and in the boardroom.

Chalmers is voicing the long-held view of Graham Lowe that New Zealand should not be pushed around by anyone. Since the 1980s, when the likes of Ken Arthurson ruled the Australian game through Manly, New South Wales and Australia and Maurice Lindsay did likewise with Great Britain, 'Lowie' has viewed at close quarters what happened at these levels.

New Zealand's boss at the time, the recently departed Ron McGregor, was a very capable leader for this country, he was a gentleman and not the street fighter type who resorted to gutter tactics like the Australians use to force an issue their way.

Lowie has always wanted to push the barrow that we (NZ) should fight them head on and not take a backward step or show weakness. I can visualise the conversation between Lowie and Chalmers and what he would be suggesting should be said, but more importantly how it was to be said.

"Not politely" is the best way for me to describe the tone of the message to be delivered face to face..."
