As long as much as we pay bugger all this year , we pay more than 350-400k next year. Anything above that would be overs .
I'd say, as long has we have the required cap this year and an option in the clubs favour for next year, then we are on the rith track. Griffin can make a judgement call at the end of this season.

No way Fifita walks away from a 800k a year contract for next year into a club option contract. If it happens you will get him cheap this year but not next year.

Fifita's circumstances have changed since signing that horrible 800k contract. Drangons will pay him out for this season (it already in their budget) and Dragons will pay him 500k - 600k for 2022 if he goes well in 2021.

Of course all would depend on a favourable medical report.

Sign him today and get him ready for the Anzac match to single handed my smash the Roosters pack - he’s that good on his day and certain he will put in the big effort this year.....at least
I'm just glad Griffin is out there looking for the right kind of player rather than sitting back and letting this one slip as a 'rebuild' year. Already latched on to Molo for the future and now looking to beef us up for the present season, using his contacts. It's all good in my book.
1000% agree sign the unit!!

Which is pretty much what I said.... except you will have to commit to the two years to buy out his contract. I would imagine something like 300k this year and 500k next year would do it. At 400k a season he is not bad value.

Sooo, he is not going to anyone unless he makes 1.7 million this season & next , so if the Sharks are not paying at least 30% of next years salary then forget it. We would have just got rid of Normans contract only to replace it with another salary cap roadblock.

Fifita won't be walking away from a guaranteed $800k contract for 2022. All will come down to how desperate the Sharks are to offload and how much of the bill they are willing to fit in order for them to do this.

I wouldnt be signing him any longer than the next 18 months and then take a watch and see approach for anything beyond.

I also am happy to see the moves that Griffin & Co are making. We aren't writing off this season as a re-building year. We are making the right moves in terms of bringing in players 'who can do a job' while we wait and see how our junior base fares over the coming 2-3 years to balance out our roster and grow the team from within.

Griffin seems to have done OK so far, so I imagine he will do the same this time. This signing makes sense to me especially if Griffin is going to use Kerr on the edge.

Agreed - best scenario is that Sharks pay out a majority of the remaining contract this year, we pay the difference and then we pay for the contract next year. This year we might get away with paying $100k but next year I'd be surprised if we weren't still paying $800k or near enough to.

So my guess is that we'll get him for around $450k/yr.

He is a A+ Mongrel player.....However he is also a major "DICKHEAD" liability....guaranteed to give away more than 3 penalties per game.
I watched him play at kogarah reserve grade sharks game. He ran hard, solid player.... but very undisciplined gave away too many penalties

Agree with what your saying but we sorely need some niggle up front. Lawrie has pump and Fui goes alright too. Add Fifita which potentially unlocks Sims then we’re talking business. We need to show the opposition that we’re not going to cop their shit like 2019/20 and just meekly roll over. Fifita add’s this big time.

So this gentleman hasn’t been picked for the first 3 rounds (why?) and is being shopped around. 2 fairly suspect knees and is on around the $800k mark - never mind other issues and he’ll be 32 in June.

A massive NO from me. This would be a huge mistake.

Even if we got a discount for the rest of this year - $800k for a 33yr old dickhead next year???

Seriously, NO.

I reckon he’s been dropped because he has fallen out with coach.
Is he a dickhead? Absolutely.
Would he fire up and play well for us? 100%. He’s one of those players that when challenged rises up and delivers.
If we signed him for 3 years or something silly like that then I would not be happy but get him for this year and next then I reckon it’s a gamble worth taking.
I want to win.
