Alfie>Wombat-Arse>Sticky (too young to remember Sterling in his prime, but from what I've been told he would be worthy of this discussion).
On a side note I think JT is still some way off from the Alfie, Joey, Sterlo level. For all his SoO accomplishments he still has one big gap in the resume. Being able to guide your club to a premiership is something he hasn't achieved.
It takes a special talent to make a code/sport change its rules because one player is so far ahead of the game that it becomes unfair.
Basketball had the MJ rules, The 5 second back to the basket cos of the round-mound Barkley, etc, etc.
Walter Lindrum's domination of snooker that they changed the rules.
Alfie brought about 2 rule changes. They changed the hip throw/trip rule AND the stripping rule because of his game. How many rules had to be changed for Joey?
The words great, greatest, etc get thrown around too easily. And Joey becoming an immortal was a bit of a joke (at least before a few other worthy names were added to the list first). As was the haste to have Locky given a statue at Lang Park. For some reason everytime a good-great player retires we want to put them on a pedestal and say they were the greatest player ever.
