Another billionaire wants to buy us...

Don't know for sure but I get the impression Marwan is not wanting to do anything but take the right course of action in acquiring his new club here. He is so different to Tinkler it is hardly worth stating the obvious differences. This bloke is very intelligent. He built his empire. This man, unlike Boganaire, will be able to attract players here. I also feel he would support a coach like stone or Brennan cos he brought in the untried Iestyn Harris to replace to highly respected Brian Noble at Salford. Better yet he is patient. He sacked Noble because it was a bad fit.

The page infuriated me, my only solace was to troll them. Took them a long time to realise the troll and then they banned me.

I reckon the guys on the mighty knights page would consider a knights nannas takeover the best thing that could happen to the knights.

 I laugh until I realise how true this is?...

We'll end up balls this up. Koukash is so keen to get into the NRL but we'll stuff him around long enough that he'll buy in somewhere else.

Im just glad the ARLC has control of the club...

Regardless of public opinion, if they think it's a good move, they can push it through.

Apparently Koukash confirmed on radio this morning that it is the Knights he wants to buy.

Trying to find a link to the audio.

The one thing we have in our favour is that the NRL own us and they would love to have someone like him supporting league.

Hopefully they will also be less likely to take any notice of the rusted ons and vested interests.

Koukash Insists Fans In Control With Him As Owner

Dr Marwan Koukash says if he was given the opportunity to own the Newcastle Knights the fans would be back in control.

Koukash, who owns the Salford Red Devils in the English Super League, labelled himself a 'custodian' for the fans rather than an owner.

"I don't have a boardroom full of directors telling me what to do, the people who tell me what to do and advise me are the fans.

"I listen to the fans more than anybody else," Dr Koukash told Sydney's Triple M Grill Team.

The 55-year-old told Matty Johns, Gus Worland and MG, the Knights have a number of positives which make them an attractive ownership option.

"You've got a very big town, it has a big history [but] more importantly than anything else, it has one of the biggest nurseries in the competition."

NRL CEO Dave Smith says he has spoken to Marwan Koukash and admires his desire but he won't be rushed into a decision.

"The Newcastle Knights are in good shape, they've got a great balancesheet, we've got money in the bank, we've got a great team... so I'm not surprised we're hearing from people who are interested in rugby league," Smith said on Sunday Triple M NRL with Matty Johns.

"In due course, I will sit down and talk to the right partner, it has to be the right partner for this club.

"I won't make the same mistakes of the past."

Koukash will need to do some serious homework if he wants Smith to green light his takeover. I believe the man will need to stay visible to the masses more often than not at a minimum. Fully accountable. Smith's background as a bank CEO should be all the information needed to any prospective owner that he will not be making any decision in haste. He will demand we stay profitable at a bare minimum. The point being if the owner wants out he doesn't sink the joint with debt. I have every confidence in both Smith and Koukash selling this deal. maybe Koukash will be part owner just as a start to let the fans get used to him before he decides on full ownership in a few years.

So what is everyone's take on these comments from Koukash? People on this forum are of the opinion that 90% of Newcastle fans are idiots.

What sort of important things would he be consulting with the fans over? Recruitment? Doubtful. Maybe the make up of the club's board etc but even that would be a stretch. Getting them onside for the intial takeover isn't even mandatory any more.

If he's talking about consulting the fans re: things like ticket prices, game day experience etc then that's one thing, anything more than that I don't see how consulting the fans is a realistic thing.

This.....I bet ya we f@$k this guy around so royally that he pisses off. Only the Newcastle Knights could mess up such a wonderful opportunity up so well.

I know we are called the Newcastle Knights, but this decision will have nothing to do with the club- it will all come down to Dave Smith and the NRL. I'm confident he'll do his due diligence in regards to Koukash, but I doubt he'll leave him lingering around too long and see the club miss the boat altogether.

Just imagine if the Members Club and Tinkler didn't dick around for so long earlier in the year- we could have saved a couple of months and instead of 2015 looking like a write-off, we could have had the coaching staff and ownership all sorted and gotten into player recruitment ASAP.

I think it's critical we resolve the club ownership before we look at a coach.

He should just buy the club and not give the anti vote a snowflakes chance in hell. It isn't like members are shareholders. I hope he just offers the NRL everything they ask for and we get on with it. Not give the idiot vote a chance to think. the bleeding hearts supporters need to go away. They do not accept the realities of modern business. We are a business. We are not the Lions Club or Rotary. Great organisations as they are even they look to corporates for support. Newcastle! Forever wanting to be the underdogs. Not me thanks.

I share the concerns about us stuffing him around to the point that he decides to buy Cronulla instead.

Man that would burn badly... If he did and Cronulla became a force, I'd find it almost difficult to follow the club with all the geniuss making the decision.

Tinkler could be counted a mistake, because it didn't work out, but if he hadn't come along, we'd never have won the comp anyways. The team no longer trains on some random park, they don't work out in someone's garage anymore and we had the biggest coach in the game join us. If Bedsy didn't get knocked out, we might have even made it into the grand final last year. Hindsight is wonderful but the club needs to learn from it's mistakes and go forward. Not shy away into the stone ages again.
