(a) Why did we sign Griffin in the first place?
(b) Why did we extend him?

Yep questions that have to be asked.

I think his initial appointment comes down to him and Gus sharing a manager to some degree. The extension though, how not to run an nrl club 101.

I've felt we had just found a good balance between Gus, Hook and Ciraldo.

Extending Hook made perfect sense. Without it he would have spent the year with speculation about his future and it would have been worse than it is now. It also undermines his authority with the players who know he may not be there next year. This has been repeated ad nauseam in other sports codes. Leave a coach with only a year left and it signifies the club has lost faith in them. Exhibit one, Wayne Bennett. The extension was the right thing to do, subsequent events don't change that.
