It has happened before and it will happen again. It doesn't usually result in sacking the coach from a team running equal 4th a month out from the finals.Maybe sliding down the ladder since and averaging 30+ against the past 3 weeks to lower ranked teams is seen as unacceptable?
He should have been kept on until the end of the year. It sounds like the players were in on this too, especially given Merrin's behaviour yesterday. Gould has spoken on this very matter in his podcasts. What happens now if the new coach has a problem with the players? Do you sack him too?
I really REALLY hate sacking coaches mid-season. It should have been left to the end of the year. I'm sure that was the intention but Griffin may well have told them to stick it and its hard to blame him.
