I certainly dont wish to re open old wounds but why do people keep rolling out the "Tim Smith" story.
Every time the game was on the line he went missing. Apart from that the club needed to change its culture.
I dont think its an accident that the three who were advocates of "the drink" are now gone and things are improving. (MR, BF and TS).
From my humble observations there is some amazing talent in the NYC. The club just needs to provide the right coaching environment to bring these guys through. DA will make those changes Im sure.
Dont worry about one player here or there. The production line is endless. Does anyone remember Tony Williams?

I'll give you an update tomorrow hopefully

Jodeci

I know you stated in another thread a few weeks back that Dan Mortimer will be a Bulldog in 2011. I've been thinking about this. There is no way we would let Mortimer and kelly both go.

Why did Mortimer only sign a 12 month contract till end of 2010?
Who wanted the 12 months, him or the club?

I think Mortimer would be our best option for the no. 7

Kelly and KK to fight it out for the 5/8 role

KK will fight a spot with noone, he has proved himself to me more than Mortimer because all his games in the NRL not once has he had a bad game. KK does not make bad decisions, he does not seem over-owed with anything and the kid is more talented than Mortimer and Kelly IMO.

KK also listens and adapts his game better than either Morts or Kelly, It should be Morts and Kelly will fight for a spot next to KK. I dont care if the other two both go, we have Mateo who can play there and Amosa coming through.

KK to me is the best option for the #7, he is the most dangerous runner of the ball in our team and should get his hands on the ball as much as possible. I think Mortz looked very good in the red zone (oppositions 20) and would be very good running off KK. I also think Mortz passing game is better than KK so I would have him a little bit wider to take advantage of his shorts and long passing game. If Morts had a long fast cut-out pass I would then consider him at halfback, but he is lacking in that area just like KK.

Kelly and KK imo will not mix because the are both runners off the ball and need the ball in their hands as much as possible so if Kelly leaves it doesn't bother me. If mortimer also leaves, pff good how many more jnrs will we pull through, he is no more than a mitchell pearce type players while KK is more a Cronk type player to me (i.e above avg atleast)

Caylo, KK is an out an out 5/8
Mortimer looks to me to have more of the no.7 skills, better kicking and passing game

Mortimer is a 5-8 (which tbh is very evident), KK is a 5-8, Kelly is a 5-8... hell Thurston is a 5-8 (play much more like a tradition 5-8 but at halfback).

KK needs his hands on the ball, and will get that more with the #7 on his back. Mortimer has played played 12 months at halfback and I agree with Staggers sentiments that he plays like a halfback.
Mortimer is not a natural organiser, he seems to be very ad-lib about his football (more a 5-8 quality). He game is less structured more around short side plays and working into corridors. KK is more experianced and will handle the extra pressure of the halfback role better than Mortimer, also KK supports the play closer to the ruck and is most dangerous through the middle running at forwards.

The only reason you think Mortz will be a better #7 is because of his surname, if you watch his game closly he is no more a halfback then KK

I'd love to see:

1. Hayne
2. Burt
6. Kelly
7. Kris Keating
9. Matt Keating
13. Mateo

14. Kingston

Loads of potential playmaking there imo.

And I have no issue with Mortimer, but the reality is we have two vacant halves spots for grabs and 3 talented youngsters vying for them.

I, for one, am a huge KK fan. And Kelly, in my eyes, is a freak - an out and out outstanding, once-in-a-lifetime sort of talent.
