People's mindsets.
So that tells us about "people's" motivations - perceived authenticity overrides awareness that they are being used as capitalist pawns giving companies free off-field advertising.

The same mentality results in some easily led people referring to Parra Stadium as Pirtek in casual conversation... Glen Duncan is laughing and people are dickheads.
I think people understand the purpose of advertising. We just don't take it personally the way you do.

Since when is having your company name on sporting apparel sold to supporters counted as "free advertising"? Do you not think that the calculation of the sponsorship value includes the potential coverage from merchandise sales (as well as TV coverage from the players during the game, website hits on the clubs site, direct email mentions, billboard behind the interview podium, etc, etc,). Every sponsor pays and the amount they pay is directly calculated in relation to the exposure they are likely to receive for their contribution, regardless of the channel used.

And if Glenn Duncan is laughing, it is because he got his company name associated with a popular sporting fixture but I can guarantee he didn't get it for free.
So you're saying that our inclination to buy jerseys with sponsor logos on them goes some way toward funding the team we support? And that this funding therefore heavily subsidises the entertainment we take for granted?

And would you say that people who whinge about sponsor advertising, and whinge about the fact that so few of their fellow fans have a problem with it, are the same kind of freeloading parasites who brag about the use of ad blockers that are eroding the financial viability of the free websites we enjoy so much?

This one of the new supporter shirts, move the logo to the chest (smaller) and put NRL logo on other chest, add a sponsor and it's a pretty good jersey design.

No, No, Not at all.
That's not what I am saying.

I am saying that Phantom Bart shouldn't have insinuated that I (and others) are unaware that we are being used as capitalist pawns and are easily led if we refer to Parra Stadium as Pirtek in casual conversation.

The only way to make this worse ,would be having coco joy sponsorship on the front. To much black and It's a long way from the stripes.

Well the case in point is that if the worst club in the NRL (who will probably only win 3 games next season) can get a blue chip sponsor, then surely we are not far away. <insert incomprehensible blurred smiley>
they are probably paying them $2

Not keen on all the pin striping with the darker colours. Are we celebrating a 70's sandman panel van or 70yrs as a club. ;)

If it was a 70s sandman panel van it'd have a voluptuous amazon chick with huge norks on it
