Haven't seen much MMA discussion around here, thought i'd make a thread.

I'm a UFC man myself. Really looking forward to UFC:61, Arlovski vs. Silvia should be brutal. I think Shamrock will probably be a walk in the park for Ortiz, a win should cement him a fight against Liddell.

Anyway, MMA discusion in here.

Ortiz hammered Shamrock last time, cant see much changing in the rematch.
Shamrock in his prime though was very very good.

Yeah definately. Ortiz is even a better coach from what i've heard about TUF 3.

I don't know much about UFC, but I read a bit about the Gracie match recently. And I remember Shamrock from WWF wrestling.

What's the deal on this sport. Are these guys actual martial artists who came from different disciplines to enter the UFC? Are they just a bunch of tough guys? Or do they really represent the cream of their respective martial arts disciplines?

Back in the day it was different styles vs. different styles. Now days the atheletes are more rounded but generally specialise in one area. For example Chuck Liddell specialises in striking with Kickboxing and boxing skills but has enough Jiu Jitzu and wrestling knowledge to defenda against ground attacks. Generally you'll find the top guys are versed in Muay Thai kickboxing, boxing, Brazlian Jiu Jitzu and wrestling. They're not thugs or tough guys, they're actual trained athletes. It's real cool, you should download some videos. Here are some fighters I suggest

Tito Ortiz
Chuck Liddell
Randy Cotoure
Matt Hughes
Rich Franklin
Andrei Arlovski
Frank Mir
Ken Shamrock
Royce Gracie
George St. Pierre (he's canadian)
Forrest Griffen
Tim Silvia
BJ Penn

That's pretty much some of the top guys, Shamrock and Gracie being of the older generation.

Anyone Catch UFC 61? Some interesting results, Ortiz vs. Shamrock was predictable although I didn't think it would end that quick. Frank Mir showed that he is a looong way off getting back the heavyweight title, especially after seeing Arlovski vs. Sylvia, as soon as it goes the distance he's got nothing he needs to do some serious cardio work to get back to scratch...

Bump because MMA is one of the most exciting sports in the world!!!

I've been watching it for about 5 years now... I prefer Pride over UFC though!!!

You can download all the events and fights just as they come out if u know where :DD

I've recently been showed some mma fights and watched the ultimate fighter series. I saw the BJ Penn - Matt Hughes fight and Rich Franklin - Anderson Silver fight. Man was that brutal. Talk about taking some knees to the head. I'm in two minds about whether the sport is simply too dangerous but I can appreciate the skill.

Does any1 know where I can find footage of the bj penn vs caol uno fight from ufc. Was right into mma back in the day and this fight was gold. As soon as the bell rings the jap comes in and tries to fly kick bj who moves out of the way and knocks him out cold. The fight lasted all of 10 seconds. Ive been trying to find it on the net but having no luck

Life in the MMA thread!

Anyone catch ufc 68? Main event was an absolute pearler :D

Dan Henderson beating Wanderlei Silva made things in pride pretty interesting also.

I have watched a few Prides, thought they left UFC for dead!

Pride had some better fighters for sure, guys like Dan Henderson, Rampage, Fador Emelienko, Cro Cop, Silva etc. but now that Zuffa has purchased pride, most of them are either in or coming to the UFC so expect Pride to go downhill (or as rumor has it, cease to exist)

The Devil - Just wikied Cung Le, dosn't seem to be any fights with either of the shamrocks, although he has fought on a couple of cards that Frank was main eventing.

I remember watching a replay of Le's fight with Frycklund and all the commentators were going nuts at the possibility of a Shamrock/Le bout, which I thought may have happened.
