Anzac TV war between codes

They could have televised the Dragons v Melbourne game live on Good Friday with absolutely no AFL games playing in competition.

So what do you think Channel 9 decided to do?

They ran ads saying LIVE for Melbourne.

Then what happened?

:sarcasm:

The sooner we dump 9, the better.

There's no way in hell Nine will televise Roosters v Dragons live into Melbourne on Anzac Day. If they did, they'd be lucky to get 10% of the viewing audience the AFL got.

Predicted Melbourne ratings if their plan went ahead:
Collingwood v Essendon 650,000
Roosters v Dragons 40,000

And I'm being very generous with those figures. Nobody in Melbourne cares about Roosters v Dragons. How about the NRL concentrate on getting some STORM games live here first so the code gets some exposure.

Maybe it's an attempt by Gallop to say to channel 9 "If you guys want to win the rights to televise our game you're going to have to prove that you're going to take it seriously, otherwise we'll go with someone else"...?

I'm assuming that they are focussed on luring Storm supporters to watch this game in Melbourne.

It's a pity most of their target audience will be on their way to Etihad Stadium to watch Storm v Warriors at 6pm.

This T.V battle will be the equivalent of an elephant squashing an ant. Don't even bother.

Much like it is in QLD and NSW. Just in reverse.

Not really. AFL fans in Sydney and Brisbane can watch every one of their local team's matches on free to air live on or "near live"(which guarantees a delay of no more than 60 minutes).

NRL fans in Melbourne with free to air get the 3 State of Origins live, the Grand Final live, and every other FTA game telecast around (and usually after) midnight.

Storm fans are denied the opportunity to watch their own team live on FTA in Friday night games, semi finals, preliminary finals, (and can't even watch these games live on Foxtel), and the NRL expect they'll tune in for a one off regular season Roosters v Dragons game? Someone tell Gallop he's dreaming.

I'm pretty sure Brutus was referring to general QLD and NSW rivalry (QLD being the ant beating NSW the elephant);-)

he was referring to TV ratings after E.T.D said the League would rate poorly in Victoriania

why he has now gone off on some other tangen talking about when Swans and Lions games are shown God only knows

It would be great to get a game shown nationally but if we really want to get good figures in Melbourne we need to show storm games.

I can see this game rating poorly and than 9 will use that as an excuse in the future not to broadcast games.

This is a good thing that they are pursuing this. I think the NRL should be selling stand alone games like just and the Charity Shield separately to the highest bidders. I reckon this is a test. Unlikely to happen though

Meanwhile Fremantle v Richmond gets a run live in Sydney.

Oh the ratings potential.

No one more than me would love to see this game rate well, but realistically how can it rate well when a fair proportion of it's core audience will be attending a Storm home game starting at 6pm.

In my own situation, I'll be on the road at 4pm driving to the Storm game, so there is one viewer that won't be watching and there will be thousands more like me.

If I could have it my way, I would have fu*khead ch9 show every single RL game of the season live in all the other states on FTA.

Who cares what the ratings are like, it hasn't detered those those fu*kwits of the AFL.
