They'll make the 8 but they've moved from being leaders of the pack to chasers. Although They'll probably win every game from now on.
Big question marks over their edge forwards & how Papenhuyzen is when he returns.

Sims & Katoa do not inspire confidence. Loiero is mud. Warbrick is only just getting the hang of rugba leeg.

They still have the best 5/8 & hooker in the game so not all hopeless.

As long as Bellamy is in charge nothing much will happen. They are playing without their fullback and five eighth remember.

Be a brave man to write them off this early .
2015 ..Cowboys lost first 3 games .
Rd4 down 17-10 playing Storm with about 6 mins to go .
won the game .
Went on a roll after that .
won the comp.
Id never rule out a Bellyache team this early .

10 years ago you could pick a future origin player out of their crop of rookies with a fair bit of confidence. Now.......

2023 Storm imo have been hurt by their relative success. Despite plodding through the season and never looking a serious threat (a papenhuzen return did elevate them temporarily) they were comfortable in the 8 and made the top4 as the sharks failed to capitalise on another year of having a marshmallow draw.

The likes of Faalogo and Howarth who are touted as future prospects never got a run until the final round and as shown by the finals results the players they could have replaced were not up to finals standards. Bellamy took a low risk approach and got top4 but a serious go for the premiership needed a less conservative approach.

injuries and drops in form left them with a squad of outside backs that would struggle to get a run at the tigers (a Nofoaluma loan again would have helped) and the move away from vlandysball and back to slow rucks has diminished the effectiveness of a running hooker plus all fullback spine.

It’s a team lacking in depth and many of the first choice players are not up to first grade standard. No easy solution but it’s likely 2024 is another year of plodding into the top8 and falling well short of the top teams.

all good things come to an end, especially in sport. just glad we haven’t fallen as hard as many clubs who have had success. Couple of decent forwards and centres and we are contenders again.
