Are we fair weather supporters?

I am just as disappointed and frustrated by our effort against the Panthers as everyone but the reaction on this forum can be a little bit hysterical and over the top. "Nene and Lafai should not be in first grade according to some, Nightingale should go, Mann is not a FB, Centre, 5/8 or half. He is even not a winger to some. Dufty is too mistake riddled and can be pressured out of a game, Aitken is to blame for Nightingale's mistakes, can only tackle front on and can't pass. Hunt is soft, Widdop is only a fair weather player, and of course McGregor is the worst coach in the comp.....etc etc". Do we panic?

Just traumatised supporters. When you take the game so seriously, when it's always been such a big part of your life, and you see the same thing play out year after year with no power to control, it does make you hysterical. I currently have a real fear that we may have hit the wall because, simply, that's what happens to McGregor coached teams this time of year. Not fair weather because we will still be there demanding what's best for the club and revelling in the joy of the wins and the sorrow of the losses.

You can support the club without pledging unwavering allegiance to the coach. The finger must be pointed at Mary after a loss as demoralising as that one. But glad to see him having a laugh in the presser.

"Drop your shoulders, have some fun", was his half time advice. 20-2.

So you think that Mary can get a team to play well for the first half of the season, and then get them to play bad for the rest? lol

"Fair weathered" would imply only supporting the team when they're winning. Half the people here whinge like little bitches when we're winning then carry on like smug arseholes when we have a loss. There's some quality people here and some great supporters but f**k me there's some dickheads. Gonna checkout of here for now and get some perspective, in spite of a rough couple of weeks there's still a chance this is going to be a big season for the red and whites. Catch you all come semi time, as always Go The Dragons!!

What have you been watching the last three years? He hasn't managed the team well in the past and we are flat for the second half of the year, yes. I trust we will manage better than previous years despite him. We have some great talent but it's not in the coaching box. He's good at getting a happy unit of players, not much else.

Fair-weather is not a fair terminology IMO.
Most support the team through thick and thin, good times and bad and never leave to support other clubs despite how depressing it gets at times.
It is just that we are an extremely opinionated lot and don't mind wearing our hearts on our sleeves with some more so than others.
It is not a pre requisite that you have to love the coach and never disagree with things to be a supporter.
The hardest day I have seen in recent times is when much of the crowd at KJO booed them at half time against Tigpies in the 2nd round last year but that turned to wild adulation when they got the finger out in the 2nd half.

Actually a very succinct assessment of where we are!
In truth, we are just supporters.
Through thick and thin actually but many of us are just tired of having our intelligence insulted.

Any supporter of the Dragons have the right to be critical of the team’s performance or anything associated with the team.
Penrith beat us. They deserved the win. End of the Story.
However, It was obvious Hunt was hurting and so was JDB. I question whether these players were passed fit to play.
The power game, as in 2017 is taking its toll on the forwards.
We all have opinions and we should respect all noteworthy opinions. As with any opinion there are sides.
Opinions here are not going to have any bearing on recruitment: if you disagree with a statement here the best way is reply with facts to support your reply. No need for abuse of the poster

I am a passionate Dragons' supporter and have been for more than 50 years. I make no claim to be able to analyse the game as some here can. But I have seen enough seasons of footy and have a good enough memory to state without any fear of conviction there has never been an NRL coach who has tried to succeed by only trusting in the same 16 players to take the field for the first 12 games of the season in what has become a 17 man game. To think that we have good young players like Host and Sele getting their initial experience of NRL in the past 2 seasons then getting a total of 5-10 minutes game time in the first 12 rounds of 2018 while members of the trusted 16 carry injuries into games is just so short-sighted. To think we have the highly rated Zac Lomax who was given a 5 minute run with a game lost and apparently carried within the club as a specialist non-playing no 18 is beyond my comprehension. To put the same side out on the field week after week when we have no player prepared to contest bombs (I can't remember any Dragon regularly doing so since Ben Creagh) similarly has me searching for some sort of logical answers. But I am yet to find any.

Is it any wonder that when we lose 3 matches in 6 weeks to teams utilising similar tactics with our coach unable to present alternative strategies that fans air their grievances on this Forum? Is it fair on our team or us fans that we must take the field every week handicapped by the coach?

I think the majority just don't get footy.
Gitano I can accept losses, I even planned for 7 losses this year, so another 4.

However, what irks most of the forum and me is the following.

A. Playing busted injured players and thinking they can compete against other highly trained footballers. Look at Penrith, injured players are stood down to recover and they give some ISP guys a go. Leading the comp. Our club thinks highly injured players are better than fit ISP players.

B. Playing with 16 week after week after week.

C. Sticking with a coach who has no success for the past 3 years while clubs like Souths sack Maguire who led them to a GF, but became like Mary.
Now look at how they are going with their new coach.

D. Sticking with old worn out players like nighty while great teams move their old players into retirement and bring new players through to keep the team fresh and on top.

These issues raised by forum members are all relevant and fair. Many on this forum seem to know more about football than Mary and co.

The principles of creating a great team is no different to creating a great team in the work place or even creating a great family unit.

Mary and co are the ones who don't understand football.

Yep, Mary is a dead set loser.

I think it’s disgusting that you can find so many strong and diverse opinions on an Internet forum.
I find Internet forums work best when everyone agrees on the correct opinion and no discussion is entered into on any other way of thinking.

I believe we should all stop criticising the team, the coach, the tactics and each other immediately and all just get along.
Maybe we should just have just one thread here where we all just retype the words to the team song over and over again to each other?
