Ash Taylor

Ash Taylor has (or had) a good kicking game - and that's it. Passing, defence, running all average. Game management poor. He's not the answer, and it's a huge assumption to think he would even consider playing for us.

I like Hunt but if the rumours are true im just throwing it out there. Obviously Cronk is not going to tarnish his career by coming here so that's even more ridiculous than my consideration of Taylor. We really need someone with a good long kicking game like Soward had. If we have a bad set its always good to be able to turn the other team around.

Hunt has said multiple times that he actively prefers 7 to 9 even though he enjoys playing both.
I have heard him recently say that he really likes 9 because it takes the pressure off him, but my main thought in it would be that seeing as though it doesn't look likely he will play 7 for Qld again, he may want to play 9 full time so he can nail down and excel at being Qld's long term 9. At 7 for Qld he could do a job and will have good games and have rubbish games but at 9 if he played it week in week out he could actually be quite dominant.

I agree that Hunt doesn't seem to be the answer either. When Luc filled in last week he didn't do a bad job, so I'll put his name up there. Can run, pass, off-load. No idea what his kicking game is like.

Probably rubbish but man he's got some silky skills, I have a feeling next year he's going to have a breakout year. Was good to see him involved in some set plays.

Hunt is playing shit at 7 so he should no longer get a say. He should be played at 9, his half back days ($1m quality halfback days) are behind him, he is a shot duck. As I said on another thread, I think the only hope of getting any value from him now given we are stuck with him is put him at 9 and McInnes at 13mand see what happens.

McInnes is in the form of life and will only get better. He doesn't deserve to shifted around and shafted for all he does for us.

McInnes will be fine at lock , heart as big as Phar Lap ... The problem is Hunt , he would be better at 9 , could benefit the team , because it ain't working now ... With Hunt there they can share the tackling and free up McInnes to run a bit more ...

Yeah its an option no doubt, I still hold out hope Jack will be back though, being the eternal optimist.

Firstly, McGregor is the last coach Taylor needs. If he has mental demons, our style of play would destroy his confidence completely. I think Holbrook wil be good for him.
Second, Hunt is a half not a hooker and wouldn't last a season at 9. Although It will he interesting to see how he goes playing hooker next week.

The McGregor thing was a joke..as for Hunt playing 9 im not sure if he'd last a whole season playing 80 minutes each week at first but then again he played 3 origin games there pretty solidly, so wouldn't shock me.

Should we swap Ash Taylor for Ben Hunt, straight swap. I know Ash Taylor has had a bad year but I think Benny Hunt would enjoy playing 9 more and is never going to replace McInnes, I think the Broncos have some good options at 9 and 7 going forward so if we wanted to move back to SE Qld, would anyone entertain that idea, He does have an outstanding kicking game. Im still happy enough with Hunt but for his sake if he wanted to play 9 we can't offer that.
No Way to Ash Taylor. He is one of the most overrated and over paid players in the game. As someone else on this forum said a few months ago, Taylor is a myth. He has virtually no running game. I actually thought the Gold Coast were better off with Jacks at halfback and I wouldn't want Jacks either. Tyrone Roberts is the Gold Coast best half, but he is inconsistent.

I am fine with a halves combination of Norman at 7 and Hunt at 6. I believe Hunt is either a 5/8 or hooker. I would have Norman as the dominate play maker, which should take a of pressure off Hunt. Hunt is one of the best running halves in the comp.

If I had to choose between keeping Hunt or McInness to play hooker, I would keep Hunt. He offers a lot more variation and options from dummy half. He is Qld's incumbent hooker, so he can definitely play there.

I see McInnes as an out and out hooker. I don't see him as a lock.

ps. I edited this post from Hunt at 9 to Hunt at 6. That is what I meant to say in the first place.

Cooper Cronk.
And I think it’s pertinent to at least ask the question hunts been a failure and as for origin he was hooker because he couldn’t get picked in his natural position and Norman is an origin player too both have been ordinary for us muppet coach aside,if hunt wants to go I’d let him save that money for someone else

Cronks done after this year you’re a dope to even suggest his name try someone younger than 34 and not already committed to retirement
So you’re saying Ash Taylor is a better option than Cooper Cronk?

I’ll tell you what.. Ask that question out loud.. Take a look at the ladder.. And then go have a look at yourself in the mirror..
