Don't delude yourself - great players and teams come and go...

Been hearing that for 2 decades and we're still standing.

Tufnel, the Ashes, sledging, suspect catches, underarm, Australia is cricket's god with the rest of the nations our loyal subjects. You pay homage and come to Australia for a summer and we let you share some of our spotlight, how it is, how it's going to be.

Even if we lose game 3 in Brisbane, it won't be about Sri Lanka's victory, it will be about Australia's defeat. The nations should just accept it, and be thankful for the living off cricket we provide for them.

The West Indies were saying the same thing!

Richard Hadlee was particularly thankful for the living Australia provided him with

As were Messrs Marshall, Garner, Ambrose, et al

Shows you how bias Grieg is. He was saying it was clearly out while the rest of us are saying its bounced.

Hadlee was great because Australian's made him great. We gave him an identity, that of the villian, a prize he treasures and revels in to this day, and thanks Australia for.

Marshall and gang are a great example. No one did more for their careers than the Australian media machine during their tours to Australia. Great blokes.

Did I say that??

I thought from his reaction that he caught it, I thought the replays were inconclusive.... Jayawardene now says he didn't, so that's fine with me...
Youre getting good at Lying JJ.
Replays were inconclusive, but yet you could still tell he had his fingers under it

Hadlee does not treasure the role of the villain... he despised it...

But, in terms of ownership - he certainly owned Australia

But in reality, nobody during that period gave more than a rat's arse about Australia... The Windies were clearly the dominant side, England and NZ on the next rung, then Pakistan with Aust 5th at best.

Packer's money gave you some influence, just like the huge money in the sub-continent produces some influence now... but in cricketing terms you were mediocre - much like NZ is now! (but at least we've had another great all-rounder to entertain us :D )

when it happened I said I thought he had his fingers under it (seeing it in real time, and one or two replays), and I'm happy to admit I was wrong... although I still think the replay was inconclusive - so in my view if the replay is inconclusive the fielder's opnion should be trusted - although Dyer has pretty much put paid to that

so quoting what I said when the incident happened, doesn't mean i am "busted" kiddies

I love the fact that Australia has reduced you to living over 20 years in the past. Enjoy it Marty McFly.

As you have proven convincingly, arguments against Australia cricket dominance are like a barren wasteland once you get past the mid 80s.

So what's your next argument against the World's best batmen's Ricky Ponting ? An example from the West Indies v England WSC in 1979 I assume is all you'd have left.

Clearly Aust is the best team CURRENTLY...

although the Ashes put paid to any debate about total dominance... everyone thought the Windies would dominate forever, indeed post-war Aust were very dominant - but neither lasted... nor will the status quo remain now - McGrath and Warne are irreplaceable

What about Ponting?? clearly he's great, no question. Clearly Tendulkar, Dravid, Lara, Hayden (at leastin Aust) and Kallis are great too - Personally, I enjoy watching Kallis and Dravid the most. Also, although I'm sure you'll disagree, I think it's foolish to suggest that anyone other than Tendulkar (even if his current form is down) or Lara are the best batsman currently playing cricket,

I think Ponting has reached the stage where he should be regarded as an equal with those two.

Saying Australia is the best team currently is like saying Freddie Spornforth is currently dead. Neither are likely to change.

The best the other nations can hope for are occasional victories over Australia to sustain them through the years and years perhaps decades of drought.

I don't - splitting hairs though
