Tufnel, the Ashes, sledging, suspect catches, underarm, Australia is cricket's god with the rest of the nations our loyal subjects. You pay homage and come to Australia for a summer and we let you share some of our spotlight, how it is, how it's going to be.
Even if we lose game 3 in Brisbane, it won't be about Sri Lanka's victory, it will be about Australia's defeat. The nations should just accept it, and be thankful for the living off cricket we provide for them.
JJ said:Richard Hadlee was particularly thankful for the living Australia provided him with
As were Messrs Marshall, Garner, Ambrose, et al

Youre getting good at Lying JJ.JJ said:Did I say that??
I thought from his reaction that he caught it, I thought the replays were inconclusive.... Jayawardene now says he didn't, so that's fine with me...
Rastus_in_Melbourne said:Hadlee was great because Australian's made him great. We gave him an identity, that of the villian, a prize he treasures and revels in to this day, and thanks Australia for.
Marshall and gang are a great example. No one did more for their careers than the Australian media machine during their tours to Australia. Great blokes.

Replays were inconclusive, but yet you could still tell he had his fingers under it

But, in terms of ownership - he certainly owned Australia
But in reality, nobody during that period gave more than a rat's arse about Australia... The Windies were clearly the dominant side, England and NZ on the next rung, then Pakistan with Aust 5th at best.
Packer's money gave you some influence, just like the huge money in the sub-continent produces some influence now... but in cricketing terms you were mediocre - much like NZ is now! (but at least we've had another great all-rounder to entertain us )

As you have proven convincingly, arguments against Australia cricket dominance are like a barren wasteland once you get past the mid 80s.
So what's your next argument against the World's best batmen's Ricky Ponting ? An example from the West Indies v England WSC in 1979 I assume is all you'd have left.
JJ said:I think it's foolish to suggest that anyone other than Tendulkar (even if his current form is down) or Lara are the best batsman currently playing cricket,
fish eel said:I think Ponting has reached the stage where he should be regarded as an equal with those two.
