Haha mate didn't he only play the first two tests? And wasn't that over a year ago? If you wouldn't pick players because of two average tests against a nation over a year ago then it would be impossible to force your way into a side ever again and your boy Watson would never have been given another chance.

Oh well Hussey is a lock for the next Ashes tour in 2013. Just brought up his 50.

Never said I would not pick him again, but he was very ordinary and I am yet to see that his technical flaws have been erased. In fact his dismissal in the 1st innings of the Australia A game showed that flaw again. He needs to work on these flaws, i.e. not moving his feet outside off, and the short ball.

Crap. The ball hit the seam and went away enough to catch the edge. Same as to Khawaja. It was a typical green top wicket. It says nothing about the batsman other than his luck wasn't in that day.

As for England he got a 36 in the First Test so hardly a failure, Australia didn't bat twice. In the second test Flintoff and Anderson picked him up early, but he was hardly Robinson Crusoe in that match. Ponting got 2 and 38, North got 0 and 6, Clarke only got 1 in the first dig and Kat only got 6 in the second. As plenty of people have pointed out Hughes was the sacrificial lamb to get Watson in for his bowling to offer another option after Johnson bowled pathetically going for 6 an over.

In his 13 test innings Hughes has only been out under 20 4 times. He can look unorthodox but that is very different to a technical flaw. He makes more runs than almost anyone else in FC cricket and Hilditch should forever be condemned for hanging him out to dry.

means nothing to me, big difference between the Vics attack and the poms

no doubt Hilditch and co will jizz over his half ton, but they'll be quick to dismiss Smiths and O'Keefe's half tons against the pom's attack

Exactly my point.

Why couldn't Ronnie break his hand last week?

In Lockyworld Hughes also has a technical problem late cutting left arm orthodox spinners. And Khawaja has edged 2 to the keeper so he must obviously have technical problem with balls on and outside off stump.

There is a difference between nicking a good ball outside off, like Usman did...and fishing outside off like Hughes did TWICE. He did not move his feet in the first innings and played a horrid shot in the 2nd innings.

I reckon the result in the first Test will mirror the Test series result.

It certainly will be a great advantage to the team who wins at the 'Gabba going to two absolute roads in the 2nd and 3rd test with both teams not particularly strong on the bowling front. Stranger things have happened in test cricket though.

I am no Hughes fan... but have seen enough to notice two things... his propensity to play horrid shots... and his propensity to score lots of runs...

He just looks like one that you have to tolerate the former from... and Hilditch (oh the irony) won't...

The good thing about Hughes is he doesn't go to the media and have a whinge about missing out on selection. He just goes back to Shield cricket and proves the selectors wrong. Did it last year and again in the A game straight after missing the massive Ashes squad.

Without a doubt Ponting will make his usual blunder in making a decision, where captains with a thinking cricket Brain wouldn't make and cost Australia a chance to win this test
