either that or a wicket keeper

you'd think... but Hussey has been pretty ordinary (for a f**king long time, that's 3 years - no small slump, and one of those tons was dubious to say the least)... at least if he was a Kiwi he could point to the poor wickets and lack of competence around him... North's as bad (actually, he's a little better in most respects)...

Astonishing they're in the team... really an indication (along with your ranking) of how far Australia have fallen - people can blame Ponting's captaincy all they like, but the bottom line is your players are fairly unremarkable... actually, very unremarkable... but it was to be expected, there was a once in a lifetime generation (like the Windies 70-80s) and now you're very much in the pack - which makes test cricket a lot more exciting imo

i knew harris was injured but was just trying to ascertain if he was still out or not.

if what locky says is true and he ends up playing shield this weekend then it appears hes been left out on form. which i would usuallly say defies logic, usually.......

if harris pulls through the shield game and takes wickets and siddle fails (i assume this would happen whether he plays or not) then he must be in the squad for the second test.

i have a feeling that even if we win the series this summer is going to be painful

The selectors would have had doubts over his fitness given he just returned to Shield cricket a couple of weeks ago and his injury flared up again. So even though he might play Shield cricket the selectors decided not to risk him due to fear of him breaking down during the match.

You have doubts on Siddle taking wickets..he has not even taken 10 wickets in 4 games..Harris took 9 in 1 game! I am sorry but I would rather punt on Harris lasting 5 days than Siddle getting wickets. Trying hard does not get you wickets. Would I play Harris, probably not ahead of Bollinger but he would be a better bet as a backup rather than Siddle bowling pies for 5 days!

Bad news guys, Siddle is playing and Bollinger is not. They reckon Bollinger is under done... He will be leaving Brissy tomorrow to go play the One day game for the Blues...

1-0 England here we come.

I actually want England to win...and for myth sh*ttle to go for plenty, knowing our luck Ricky will probably bring him back to clean up the tail, and the prick will jag a 3/4 and justify his selection for the rest of the series :x

He was very good against them in England, unfortunately he's done sfa since.
Very good???? 20 wickets @ 30 is nothing to get excited about, i suppose it's better than his overall record which is absolutely sh*thouse. i cannot beleive this clown is getting first crack. He struggled last summer against two of the weakest batting teams to tour Australia in Eons......

Siddle over Bollinger?

Hahahahahha.

It will take every ounce of good fortune for us to win this match considering we were already carrying two dud bats. And now we're carrying a dud bowler too...

England to go 1 up.

I will say that the poms really rate Siddle I have no idea why.

The played against Johnson bowling like spastic and Hauritz and North in England and they've never faced Doug. Siddle looked ok in comparison. Oh and Poms have had NFI for a long long time. Australian selectors have only had that problem for a few years (but a much more severe dose).

Only Hilfy got more wickets, don't get me wrong Siddle doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the test side at the moment but he did bowl well in England last year.

Only one other Australian quick is ranked in the world Test top 10 other than Mitchell Johnson - Doug Bollinger.
And he is the only Australian speedster in both the Test and one-day top 10 - one of only two players in the world to boast the feat.
So no wonder Bollinger is standing by his stats as national selectors mull over which fast bowler to give the dreaded tap on the shoulder ahead of the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.
Yet Bollinger is still tipped to be overlooked due to something that is not in his resume - match fitness.
His lack of first class bowling after breaking down in India with an abdominal strain last month is expected to cost him his spot when the first Team is finalised.
But try telling him that.
"I would love to play. I think I have had the perfect preparation," he said.
"I've received the program the physio thought would be good for me to get through and that's all I can do.
"I am feeling right to go and bowling well.
"I think I have bowled well - I think my stats show that.
"I think I have a lot to offer this team."
Bollinger has every right to talk up the fruits of his labour from the past year.
He has taken 49 wickets from 11 Tests at the world-class average of 23.80 - the best of the current Australian pacemen.
Yet the addition of spinner Xavier Doherty has put one of the four quicks in the selectors' sights for Brisbane.
Johnson and swing king Ben Hilfenhaus appear to be over the line while captain Ricky Ponting is a well documented fan of Peter Siddle.
Which leaves Bollinger as the odd man out.
"Of course it would faze me (if not picked)," Bollinger said.
"It's the Ashes, mate.
"But there's not too much I can do about it.
"If I don't get a game I will do what I have to do to get back."
It was seen as an ominous sign that Siddle - returning from a lengthy stint nursing back stress fractures - was rested from Victoria's last Sheffield Shield clash.
It was insinuated that it was to ensure he was fresh for a Gabba assault against England.
Bollinger played the last Shield clash for NSW and bowled only a total of 22.5 overs for the match.
He took 3 for 25 off 11 in the first innings, but managed just 0 for 41 off 11.5 in the second - as well as conceding the winning runs in Tasmania's dramatic one wicket victory.
But Bollinger was ensuring fitness was not an excuse ahead of the Ashes Test.
"It's not as though I am unfit or anything," he said.
"I have been working hard with the NSW fitness coach and trainers.
"I have done all I can do."
