Stosur is into the semis of Sydney. Davenport has pulled out.

OMG - this has been one weird week! Why did Lindsay pull out? This means that Sam will now face Elena Dementieva in the semi final. It's great to see 2 Aussies in each of the respective semi finals, unfortunate for Lindsay though. I hope she hasn't got an injury.

Oh, wow - that's fantastic! (for Sam and Brianne, that is Very Happy ). Who are their opponents, or 'likely' opponents? What do you think their chances are of winning the final? I haven't seen any doubles whatsoever, or seen Sam and Brianne in action before.

They are playing Demenieva/Sugiyama . Both those players, especially Sugiyama are excellent doubles players, and Stewart is a massive choker, so the Aussies will do it tough.

Let's not forget Samantha Stosur has the opportunity to take the women's singles title ;-) However, I now believe that Alicia Molik will win, especially with the exit of Lindsay Davenport. It would be great to see an all-Aussie women's final, but I think it'll be an Alicia Molik v. Elena Dementieva final. Who knows, Sam may surprise us all. I shouldn't rule Shuai Peng out of the equation either.

Molik is playing Venus Williams in the 4th round of the Aussie Open. Will be a tough match for Alicia, but of the top 8 seeds (one of which Alicia had to play), you'll prefer her over at least 6 of the others.

And Stosur is playing Mauresmo first round. Tough task. But Amelie is still in some doubt she'll play.

Stosurs probable road to the title

Round 1 - Amelie Mauresmo
Round 2 - Dinara Safina
Round 3 - Aniko Kapros or Iveta Benesova
Round 4 - Ai Sugiyama
Quarter Final - Serena Williams
Semi Final - Vera Zvonareva, Maria Sharapova or Svetlena Kuznetsova
Final - Lindsay Davenport

Moliks probable road to the title

Round 1 - Medina Gearrigues
Round 2 - Qualifier
Round 3 - Jelena Jankovic
Round 4 - Venus Williams
Quarter Final - Lindsay Davenport
Semi Final - Anastasia Myskia or Patty Schynder
Final - Serena Williams

Stosur has an absolute horror draw.

Not a bad draw for Alicia, pity the same cannot be said for Sam. You would expect Alicia to cruise to the 4th round. If she were to face Venus Williams in that particular round, I think she has a huge chance, and will win and make it to the quarter final. BTW, what is Alicia's best Australian Open record to date (i.e. 3rd round, 4th round, etc.)?

Is the men's singles draw released as yet (or is that tomorrow)?

The only danger would be if Sesil Karatancheva is the qualifier she'll play in the 2nd round. Sesil is a 15yo who's the top seed in qualifying. She's going to be an awesome player. But there's 12 qualifying spots so only a 1 in 6 chance. Alicia probably would still win though at this stage.

Is the men's singles draw released as yet (or is that tomorrow)?

That's been released but haven't been able to find that. The AO site always takes a couple of hour to put it up

Some states (NSW & VIC did, QLD didn't :( ) had the draw shown this morning om TV just before the tennis started. 30 minutes the draw program went for.

4th round last year

Oh, that would be right. I shouldn't have slept in!

All I know is that Lleyton Hewitt's first opponent is Arnaud Clement (that'll be their 3rd match-up in a space of 3 weeks), and he has a possible semi final showdown against Andy Roddick.

And another qualifier who'll be an even bigger danger is Lina Krasnoroutskya. She's been ranked as high as 25, but is constantly injured. If she wasn't injured so often she'll be top 10 or top 5. So Alicia could meet 1 of those 2 in the second round.

That's great to hear :)

What an epic match the semi final has become between Lleyton Hewitt and Max Mirnyi. It's one set all, and has been sent to a decider. The second set scorecard doesn't really reflect the closeness of the contest, with Hewitt attaining two breaks to secure the set. Great match of tennis by both players! Go Lleyton! :D

You can really tell Max Miryni is suffering from the heat and lack of match play out there against Hewitt.

After taking the first set, he has dwindled away in the heat, and it should only be a matter of time before Hewitt Breaks him in the third set.

Currently 6-7, 6-3, 2-1 to Hewitt
