Petrova retired injured in her match against Peng.

Petrova is always injured. She pulled out of the Gold Coast last week with an injury(didn't even step onto court for her QF). Petrova gets injured 6-7 tournaments throughout the year. Already 2 from 2 this year.

Shuai has done magnificently thus far in this tournament for a qualifier - good on her! :D Nadia Petrova retired due to heat illness. Bad luck for Nadia though.

bugger.

Oh well Andre has just pulled out when Roddick was winning 6-5 in the first.

His hip kept locking up.

Hopefully he is right for the Aussie Open.

Its interesting isn't it.

An Asian player always ends up stepping up at the tournament here in Sydney.

For the past two years its been Hui Tung Lee, now Shuai Peng.

Yeah, just saw that :( That's a pity. I do hope he is fit to play at the Australian Open.

Has there been any news on Joachim Johansson?

Does anyone know what happened with Tommy Haas (i.e. will he be playing at the Australian Open)? I haven't heard anything since the Hopman Cup.

Sounds like Philipousis syndrome, give up when down.

Molik match has just started, and has started strong, got an early break.

Molik leads 2-0

I heard Jochim will be fine, and will contest.

Judging by what agassi said, he will be alright.

No word on Tommy Haas as yet.

Molik leads 3-1

Well Molik has rapped it up and pretty easily I might add.

6-1, 6-2

Zuluaga put up a fight in the last part of the second set when it was 4-0 but apart from that it was smooth sailing for Molik.

Olivia won a game

After losing 6-3 6-0 in the first round of qualifying in 2003 (losing the last 9 games)
Then losing 6-0 6-0 in the first round last year
Then losing 6-0 6-0 in the first round of juniors last year

She won a game. The first game in her qualifying match this year. It is now 1 set all.

Just checked and she did play AO Juniors in 2003. She lost 6-4 6-2. Still not 33 games, but 24-30 games(don't know when Olivia's 2 games were won in that set) in row lost is a lot. Good to see she won one.

Hewitt has won the first set 6-1.

Got a dodge call at the beginning of the second, which would have given him an early break, but he is about to get the break now off johannson's second service game.

2-1 Hewitt, i'd imagine.

And, Hewitt wins 6-1 7-6 and will now face Max Myrni in the semi's

COME ON!!!!!!!

Hooray! Great win by him - he was absolutely blitzing Thomas Johansson in the first set. It was a courageous fightback by Thomas in the second set. I felt a little sorry for him with one of Hewitt's returns in that tie-break which caught the top of the net, and fell on the line (handing Hewitt a mini-break). That was the turning point, but that's just tennis. Good work Lleyton! :D

Excuse my ignorance, but I have never heard of Shannon Nettle before  Judging by the scorecard, he did fantastic, and upset the number 2 seed as well. Congratulations Shannon!

I watched the second set - absolutely crushed Fabiola Zuluaga. Alicia's been virtually cruising throughout this tournament thus far. You would expect her to win against Shuai Peng, and to probably face world number 1, Lindsay Davenport, in the final (no disrespect to Sam Stouser or Elena Dementieva). It would be a great final if that were to eventuate.

Sam and Brianne Stewart are into the doubles final after Kirilenko sustained a knee injury. It was a walkover, so didn't even get on the court.

Oh, wow - that's fantastic! (for Sam and Brianne, that is :D ). Who are their opponents, or 'likely' opponents? What do you think their chances are of winning the final? I haven't seen any doubles whatsoever, or seen Sam and Brianne in action before.
