Axl leaks a new one...

Brian May isn't credited dont think,

having said that. the credits are an epic in themselves. like the lord of the rings. he could be on there.

my favorite song so far is probably street of dreams as ive heard Chinese Democracy, Better, Madagascar and IRS before. Theyre probably the most solid songs on the album. There was a Time is also pretty good.
Street of Dreams Elton john style Piano with Axl singing..then solos.

i dont rate "If the World"
its actually quite catchy, base and drum tune. with i think..indian or mexican music mixed in. its like what you would hear in a slow motion montage of a guy who's about to shoot another guy in a movie.
however i dont feel that the singing fits the song. sounds like he's forcing it out a bit and from that standpoint and it detracts a bit.

the way i see it...

if it was a blank canvas..just called. Axl Rose - Chinese democracy. I would have a higher opinion of it (and im giving it about a 7.5/10)
Its a solid album. not sh*t by any means.

peoples problem with it will be "its not worth the wait" or "wheres slash?"

my opinion is that...the old band and axl were Guns N Roses. the new guys...theyre all fine musicians but its Just not the same....they should be called something else. other than that its worth a look.

The artwork in the book is quite good as well.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Axl parading around in this group telling everyone it's Guns'n'Roses. It clearly isn't. It's Axl Rose's new band after he'd pissed off the other members. In my eyes, and I'd say in most of those in the general population too, you could get away with calling them GnR if it was Axl, Slash, and some other guys, but you take either of them out of the band, and all of a sudden it's not GnR anymore.

I was tempted to see 'Guns'n'Roses' when they came to Australia 18 months ago, but didn't end up going because it was Axl pretending to be GnR. I'm not a fan of the guy as a person (based on what I've read of him admittedly), but as a singer, I do like him.

I might go if GnR tours for this album though.

With regard to the "it's not GnR" comments that get bandied around whenever the new band puts something out or tours, I have this comment. Everyone knows that Axl is the only original member. Slash, Duff, et al have not been in the band for over ten years and every fan would be aware of this...if you aren't, then you are living in a cave.......and with the new album, Axl and co. have come up with an album that DOESN'T try to be the old GnR and doesn't try to imitate what the band was about over 15 years ago........sure it's called GnR but that's just a formality - just like those guys who say, "Why is it called the NRL, when we have the Warriors in the comp?"....it's a name, and he owns it so he has every right to use it......another notable thing is that he hasn't used any references to Slash, Duff, Dizzy, etc in order to promote this album.......this album is new GnR, full stop, and anyone who is expecting the old GnR is deluding themselves.

Regarding the album, as a fan, I've heard demos / leaks so half of these tracks aren't anything new. They have been spruced up and now have a legitimate studio quality to them.

I personally couldn't stand SHACKLER'S REVENGE due to the weird riff intro.....but the brilliant chorus won me over.......great guitar work too.

SORRY is another great track......pure Axl victim complex / f you song.......

THIS I LOVE has to be the standout......a piano based track......with haunting lyrics and the priceless Axl Rose strained vocals, make it the November Rain of the new GnR....I know that it's a big call but it's a cool, restrained track bearing the musical / lyrical hallmarks of that epic track.

MADAGASCAR, STREET OF DREAMS and BETTER have always been favourites of mine and hearing a studio version is amazing..........I love Axl's vocal approach on Madagascar - it's like he's channeling vocals from singers past.

SCRAPED, well, the intro alone is worth it........another "f you" song...

In conclusion, it's a freakin' great album.......worth the thirteen year wait and 20 million price tag? No way, however, each track on this album blows any "rock" song on commercial radio / tv away........to be honest, in terms of fresh, original material....there hasn't been anything like this in a while....

The album definitely establishes the new GnR as a musical entity and the next album, if there is to be one would definitely be a great collection of music. I'd love to even see a B-sides or demo album just to see what Axl left on the cutting room floor....they would be freakin' good, no doubt.

Listening to the CD now. I'm impressed. Wasn't really sure what to expect, but I'm liking it overall. Some songs are a little hard to get into at first, but eventually I 'get' them.

If they tour I'm there for sure.

Yes Axl is the only original member, but I can think of a few other bands I listen too where the singer is the only original member.
Opeth and Megadeth come to mind and no one seems to blast them.

True....and what about a band like Skid Row? Still going even though their material can't hold a candle to what they were producing with Sebastian Bach at the helm.

I agree. This was never going to be the same as albums past. I mean we don't have a 'Welcome to the Jungle' or 'You could be Mine'. But I actually think this is better overall. Very diverse and a lot more experimental in places.

I think it's a well balanced album with the softer tracks like Madagascar and This I Love. Then you've got the rockier tracks like Scraped and Riad N' the Bedoins.

Can anyone here honestly tell me the names of the other members of the band?

I been listening, all I hear is an AXL wank fest, thats taken 14 years in ejaculating.

When I listen to old GNR I hear Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy, Sorum/Adler.

I need a few more listens but to me it sounds like Axl Has had a major self indulgence all in the name of himself. Thats NOT Guns and Roses.

I think Buckethead is in the band these days.

As for your comments regarding the album: I tend to agree (although I wouldn't've said it so heavy-handed myself!). The article I read about this time last year about Axl painted him as a self-absorbed, inward-looking, paranoid recluse of a man. He went through many band members and songs since the last album.

I've only heard the album through once, but although not a bad album, it's not one I'll probably listen to very often. 'This I Love' was my preferred track off there (for what I can remember anyway).
I'll give the album another listen through again tomorrow if I get the chance.

There Was A Time is an absolute cracker of a song... lots of layers. Hard rock as it should be.

If you put into perspective the amount of time and money invested in this project, its f**kn average at best and its a damn shame that the loony mind of such a wanker like axl rose ruined one of the potentially greates rock bands in history, appetite for destruction is one of the best albums ever recorded IMO.

A highly underated member of the original GNR line up is Izzy Stradlin. He wrote some good songs and when reading Slash's book he always talks highly of how he and Izzy could jam off one another as opposed to other rythm guitarists he has played with who end up just playing the exact same thing as him (rythm wise).

This is noticeable when you listen to the guitar work, how they are different yet together if you know what I mean.

A great band is the combo's I reckon and all members dont seem to be able to capture the magic without the others.

But I fear its all to late now anyway even if they do reunite. Appetite (and even some of the illusions) was written from young battlers/alco's/junkie's experiences, any new stuff will be from old millionaire egos experiences......just not the same inspiration IMO and they lost the best years of there musical lives.
